Description

A single-storey, pet friendly barn conversion with an excellent selection of walks from the door. Well placed for visiting both Bakewell and Matlock.

Enclosed lawned garden with patio, garden furniture and barbecue (shared). Private parking for 1 car. No smoking. Please note: There is a pond near property.

Village location

This single-storey cottage adjoins the owner’s home and was formerly a stable which has been carefully renovated to offer compact, yet cosy accommodation. Situated in the village of Birchover in the heart of the Peak District National Park, on a non-working farm, there is walking and hiking from the door making it a perfect base. Birchover is equi-distant from the popular market towns of Bakewell and Matlock, both having an array of shops plus leisure facilities to include swimming and golf. Chatsworth House complete with visitors’ centre and its acres of unspoilt parkland are close by for your enjoyment. Shop on campsite 150 yards (open Apr-Sep). Shop 1 mile, pub (sells basic groceries) and restaurant 30 yards.

    Lovely place in a really lovely village. Not on the usual tourist trail but well worth visiting. Eileen was brilliant, fresh eggs from her own chickens in the fridge on arrival and couldn't do enough for us. The Stables is really cosy with wifi, a good smart tv with Netflix etc and a minute's walk from the Druid Inn which is a must, proper village local with great beer and characters, bit haunted but hey...! As most of the comments in the visitor's books say, "We'll be back!"+

    We had a great stay but came home early for personal reasons, however, the only complaint we had was that the bed was quite firm and had no give in it. Other than that it was a lovely cottage, very cosy.

    This cosy and comfortable cottage was just right for a short break for the two of us and our Golden Retriever! The owner was very welcoming and exceedingly helpful.

    Really cosy cottage - ideal for the two of us plus our dog Charlie. Eileen was a lovely host who even welcomed us to the cottage with a complementary pack of local Bakewell tarts. The village is small - note there is no shop out of season - but does boast 2 pubs 200 yards apart that are welcoming with a good selection of food / drink (be aware however that out of season neither offer any hot food on a Sunday night). Eileen also has a small holding / farm which has chickens and miniature ponies attached to the cottage (which Charlie our spaniel found fascinating). Local area very pretty with access to good scenic walks including disused railway routes (e.g Monsal Head). Self catering perfectly possible in the galley kitchen of the cottage but if you want to go into town (coffee shops / restaurants / take away) then Bakewell, Buxton, Matlock and Matlock Bath all within easy reach. A nice relaxed long weekend and we hope to visit again in the spring.

    Perfect location for walks. Simple small accommodation, with all the required facilities. Owner of the cottage is very friendly and on hand to help with things if needed. We have one large Border Collie and he loved it. Wouldn’t think that you could have more than this if bringing pets though, as the living room/kitchen area is snug (perfect for us). Birchover has two pubs and that’s it, so don’t expect a village shop. The pubs are friendly though and I’d thoroughly recommend this place to stay if you have a dog and want to go walking everywhere. It’s also close to Bakewell if supplies are needed. We’ll definitely return to stay again.

    The Stables was in a very pretty village called Birchover. If the weather had been better then we would have sat in the garden. The pub was opposite the cottage. Unfortunately it rained most of the week which made walking difficult. The owner of the property was very helpful and approachable. Overall an OK holiday.
