A lovely little cottage in a beautiful setting. Very peaceful, within walking distance for a fabulous beach, and we especially enjoyed exploring the Tarka trail on hired bikes! The local amenities are a bit restricted, but there is a newsagents and a well stocked mini supermarket, however Bideford is only a short journey away, and is well worth exploring in its own right. Car parking is no problem, as there is a free car park 5 minutes walk away.

The Shoe Box was a comfortable and well equipped base. Garry the owner was very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed eating out on the small decked area and found the local shop, the fish and chip shop (just a few doors away) and Memories restuarant all very convenient. As someone who enjoys walking I was pleased to be able to explore a different footpath each day from the doorstep, most walks ending up on the estuary looking over Instow, up to Bideford or on to the Northam Burrows leading to the lovely sanddunes and miles of sandy beach and shallow waters to Westwood Ho! Do try the delicous Hockings coffee ice cream from the van in Westward Ho!

Great time and weather for the week. Only downside is the lack of parking space for loading and unloading. 5 minute walk to village car park makes a good start to the day though.

The Shoe Box, as the name suggests, is cosy - mind your head - but very well equipped. Lovely big towels - even towelling mules & dressing gowns. Comfortable bed. Good shower. Washing machine - useful to rinse through walking gear! Car park is a short walk away but can unload/load outside. Local supermarket; fish & chip shop & pub. Very handy for the A39 so easy access east & west & Bideford- good base.

We really enjoyed our stay at The Shoebox. It's clean, well equipped with amenities close by, ideally placed for a couple looking to explore North Devon and wind down. The extra little touches (fresh flowers, delicious cream tea, beers, slippers and bathrobes) were a bonus, and Garry, the proprietor couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. We'll be back! :-)
