Peace and solitude in a spectacular location. Cosy warm and clean, with a friendly host who was available if required but not interfering. We went in mid Jan when many (but not all) local cafes and restaurants were closed, but was all the better for being free of tourist hordes. Already planning a return visit.

We chose this as our quiet spot for our honeymoon, just to chill and unwind . It was everything we hoped for. Not to much vsriety on the food stakes when we went out but if you dont mind a bit of cooking that was easy remedied . The beach was a 10min walk and on a nice day it would be perfect.

We had a holiday from heaven! The Sheiling was everything that we had hoped it would be. Comfy, cosy, charming, idyllic and welcoming. It’s remoteness might not appeal to everyone but for us it was perfect.

Sat on top of a salmon fishfarm ,trout in the loch with parasite lice on them. Cleaning nets on the private beach and contaminating the estuary. Overpriced no spare linen and accepts no responsibility to anything happening to its customers. NO meet and greet and no farewell goodbye.....Will never return to the shielings. No marine wildlife and very few land wildlife only rabbits but these are deterred from garden

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; I am shocked and saddened to receive your negative review of The Sheiling. You clearly did not enjoy your holiday. I was away for the week you were here, so did not have the pleasure of meeting you personally, but communicated pleasantly with you by phone before your arrival, just after your arrival, and once during your stay. The only issue I was aware of was my inability to respond to your request for more towels, simply because I was away that week. For this I apologised, and will in future make sure spare towels are available to guests on request. I do not accept your extremely low scores for cleanliness (2 out of 10) and comfort and equipment (2 out of 10). I'm sorry that you did not feel you got value for money (1 out of 10), and surprised that the location only deserved 1 out of 10. I'm not sure what local amenities you expected (1 out of 10). Dunvegan's shops and restaurants are within 15 minutes drive from The Sheiling, there are two cafes and a village shop in Glendale (5 minutes drive), and the world famous Three Chimney's restaurant is within walking distance. Your assertion that there is no wildlife other than rabbits is not true. The loch supports a huge range of marine wildlife and is not contaminated. The land surrounding The Sheiling is a wildlife haven for both fauna and flora. The Sheiling is not "sat on top of a salmon fish farm". The salmon farm is way below in the loch, hardly visible from The Sheiling. Salmon farms have become a common feature in Scottish sea lochs and, whilst not without controversy, do contribute enormously to the local and national economy.

The Sheiling is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the view. It’s cosily furnished and has got everything you need. OK, there’s no dishwasher, but as the Sheiling is solely for two people, the dishes are easily done in the sink in no time... Anthony, our host, was great! He gave us a very warm welcome and provided us with information about local amenities and things to do. Even though he was away for the second half of our stay, he was always approachable, when we had any questions - not that we had that many: We had a really great time at the Sheiling, just sitting on the porch and enjoying the view. The house is located in a way, that you are totally by yourself, which was exactly what we were looking for. Nonetheless, by car you get to a tiny but well stocked shop in a few minutes and the stunning cliffs at Neist Point are only a good 15 minutes’ drive away.
