This property is part of our English Country Cottages collection

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

Formerly the Royal Exchange, full of charm and character, this property offers guests a perfect holiday experience.

This beautiful, 19th century, traditional Welsh farmhouse is set in the small hamlet village of Llandissilio, just a stone’s throw away from the charming market town of Narberth. Bursting with character and original features, this detached property has been renovated to a high standard, retaining lots of its original features to provide guests with a perfect holiday experience! The farmhouse is rich in history and was formerly the Royal Exchange for the mail that exchanged horses dating back as far as 1749. Since then, the property has been in the family for four generations and has been sympathetically restored to its former glory by using traditional methods to retain its original heritage. Lots of welcoming touches have been added including a traditional Aga for home cooking and a cosy wood-burning stove, which sits beautifully in its imposing inglenook fireplace. Outside, guests can relax in the private lawned gardens next to the shimmering pond and enjoy alfresco dining on a sunny day! Conveniently located in a fantastic touring spot, guests can take advantage of visiting the neighbouring Preseli hills, perfect for rambling or biking, or for discovering its numerous iron age settlements tucked away peacefully in its rugged terrain. Nearby, the traditional market town of Narberth has lots to offer including numerous cafés, restaurants and boutique gift shops, as are the popular coastal resorts of Saundersfoot and Tenby encased in their tranquil fishing harbours and home to beautiful golden beaches, gift shops and highly acclaimed restaurants with freshly caught fish always on the menu. A visit to the resort would not be complete without a memorable boat trip to the offshore island of Caldey, where visitors can share the serenity and tranquillity of the Cistercian monks, who have made this holy island home for hundreds of years. For a family day out, visit the awarding-winning leisure attractions of Oakwood, Heatherton and Folly Farm. Beach 10 miles. Shop 200 yards, pub and restaurant 50 yards.

Beamed open-plan living/dining room with wood-burning stove in inglenook fireplace and slate floor. Large, beamed kitchen with Aga (for cooking) and slate floor. Utility. Sun room. Shower room with toilet. First floor: Double bedroom. Twin bedroom. Single bedroom with additional pull-out bed (for +1). Bathroom with toilet.

We have just spent four days at the Royal exchange, four adults two young children and two small dogs. We all agreed that it was the best holiday cottage we have ever stayed at. The cottage is beautifully furnished and well equipped, and there is a fantastic welcome pack provided which included tea, coffee, local honey and a bottle of prossecco! All bedding and towels were provided as was all the wood for the woodburner in the living room which the two dogs stretched out in front of every night. I would highly recommend this cottage, the location is excellent for so many places, we walked for miles! We will definitely be returning.

We loved the house , the attention to detail and the wonderful hosts who were so accommodating and welcoming. One suggestion would be to consider changing the mattress of the double bed as it is very soft. But overall we are very happy and we would return without second thoughts

Excellent high standard accommodation. Friendly helpful owners. If you are a dog owner & need secure garden as we do it is not secure enough to allow dog off lead. Many walks but had to be accessed by busy main road. This is our problem however for having dog needs!! It certainly would not stop us staying again !!

Excellent accommodation. Very well equipped and cosy. We loved the history behind the place and all the original features. Great for our three children as lots of play space outside and plenty inside too. Cottage was central in Pembrokeshire and we enjoyed visiting both the south and north coasts.
