Description

This interesting property has plenty of unusual features, as well as a 6-seater hot tub with countryside views.

Surrounded by 6 acres of farmland and enjoying lovely views which can be enjoyed from its private outdoor hot tub, The Rookery boasts a peaceful, rural position in the heart of east Lancashire’s beautiful Pendle district. This detached stone cottage with grass roof has been lovingly built by the owners to provide a comfortable and truly unique holiday home. Combining elements of rustic living with the industrial history of Lancashire, the owners have created an unusual and interesting space that is quite unlike any other holiday cottage. Industrial and steampunk influences, combined with bespoke craftsmanship and breathtaking views, will ensure that your stay at The Rookery is one that you will not forget.
On the ground floor is a large open plan living/kitchen/dining area, with a cosy wood burner, Chesterfield sofas, steampunk lamps, an original factory clock and a wardrobe steamer trunk cum coffee table owned by Colonel Jarl Warhlstrom, make this space rather impressive. The handcrafted kitchen, with stunning Belfast sink and polished concrete worktops, has a large central island created from an architect’s plan chest which serves as a great breakfast bar.
Accessed by a unique open-tread staircase is the first floor reading area. With its refurbished G-plan chairs, original factory lighting and gentlemen’s club wallpaper, this is a great place to chill out with a book or play a board game. Located off the reading area you will find two comfortable bedrooms. Both have bespoke lighting and Velux windows with great views over the surrounding countryside. The first floor accommodation is completed by the family bathroom. With black subway tiles and gold geometric border, sewing machine pedestal with glass basin, a huge copper profile shower and a cast iron roll-top bath that will easily fit two, this bathroom really has the wow factor.
Outdoors is a patio area with BBQ, perfect for al fresco dining, as well as a private 6-person hot tub. There is also plenty of parking so that you can leave the car behind and explore the beautiful countryside right on your doorstep.
The Rookery is located in the village of Roughlee, close to the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, in an area that is famous for its witches. The trials of The Pendle Witches in 1612 are among the most famous witch trials in English history, and the statue of Alice Nutter can be seen in the village. Follow in their trail and take a walk up Pendle Hill. Alternatively, why not try out some of the wonderful cycle routes in the area. There are several good pubs serving food within a few miles of the property, many of which welcome dogs. Barrowford, 2 miles, has a good variety of shops and eateries as well as a wine bar, restaurant and small supermarket.
Apart from great walking and beautiful scenery, there are plenty of wonderful places to visit within easy driving distance. Haworth and Brontë Country are just 15 miles away, and the market town of Skipton with its medieval castle is 18 miles. Lancashire’s Ribble Valley, with its picturesque villages and welcoming country inns, is within a 30-minute drive, the Yorkshire Dales can be reached in 40 minutes, and even the Lake District can be reached in just over an hour. There are several castles and houses worth visiting, including Gawthorpe Hall, 7 miles, Towneley Hall, 9 miles, and Bolton Abbey, 25 miles. Shop and restaurant 2 miles, pub ½ mile.

We only stayed for a weekend but wished we could have stayed longer. A really peaceful and quiet conversion. Using the hot tub whilst it snows is quite an experience. There is a pub within walking distance but several good places to eat only a short drive away and The Pendle Way is close too. Only 10 minutes off a main road but you do feel miles away from anywhere. Highly recommended.

Stunning cottage in an amazing location Garden surrounding the cottage would benefit from being fenced off for dog use and heating within the cottage is quite difficult to use otherwise perfect cottage would highly recommend and book again

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thanks for your feedback. Work on the garden area will start this year when the ground is drier. This will include an enclosed decked area around the back. Gates for the property are on order and will be fitted in the next month or so.

Lovely cottage not far from all the local amenities you need but far enough away for the rural feel. A lovely pub within walking distance (5 min drive) & plenty of walking space if you take your dog. Really enjoyed our mid week break. Host/Owner was in regular contact to make sure we had all we needed, even calling us when we had left an item behind on our final day.

My partner, our dog Bruce and I have just come back from a lovely 4 day break at the Rookery. Very quirky/industrial interior however is still cosy and warm. It has everything you could possibly need and want to make the most of your break. Surrounded by rolling fields this really is the place to switch off and unwind. My only small critique is that the surrounding area of the property is not enclosed therefore your dog will need to be tethered if outside as property is situated off a busy country road but this still will not stop us from returning again. Simply stunning. 😁

Wonderful attention to detail in decor and fixtures and fittings much thought went into this, very clever use of industrial bits and pieces. Just take a look at the downstairs ceiling and every light fitting. The cottage was very comfortable and we felt one of the few needle in the haystacks out there and we will probably return. Only thing lacking a dishwasher and a few more teaspoons but that is being picky.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner: Thank you for your feedback. I shall add some more teaspoons to the drawer. Unfortunately only 5 star properties have dishwashers and due to space restrictions we decided against it. We are glad you like the design of the property and hope to see you again.
