This property is part of our English Country Cottages collection

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

Nestled high above on the cliffs, this luxurious holiday property is the perfect retreat for relaxing and unwinding, with access to all the local amenities.

The Rocket House is a unique architect designed, luxurious holiday retreat, that is perched high on the cliffs beside the coastal path. Nestled within the Hartland Peninsula, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with breathtaking views over the Atlantic and further far reaching views down the rugged North Devon coastline and Lundy Island. Sitting peacefully within its own private garden, beside the National Trust coastal path, this stunning property, dating from the 1890’s, was originally the building storing the apparatus used by rescue services, which included a breeches buoy system, giving it the name Rocket. To allow the rescue teams to practice, a mast was situated on the Warren and the ‘Rocket’ shot at the mast, then the breeches buoy was set up and used.
Ideal for a seaside holiday at any time of year, the beach at Hartland Quay and popular Hartland Quay Inn is just a short steep walk away. The coastline, in both directions, offers some of the most breathtaking scenery in the west country and there are many long sandy beaches and hidden coves to explore. This property is beautifully presented, with stunning sea views from almost every room and a cosy wood burner to curl up beside on a cooler evening. Underfloor heating upstairs, oak floors and three beautiful bedrooms all with sea views downstairs makes this the perfect holiday choice for families and friends wishing to escape and unwind.
Hartland village is just 1½ miles away and has a good selection of village shops and highly commended pubs serving food. Bude, 13 miles, has a good selection of shops and restaurants, where many specialise in locally caught sea food. Alternatively there is a golf course, leisure centre with splash pool, surf schools and bowling. The delightful port town of Bideford is only 13 miles away and has a good selection of town amenities, restaurants a weekly market and boat trips to Lundy Island. Coastal walking, cycling, golf, riding, fishing, surfing and sailing are all available in this stunning area. Why not visit Docton Mill, Hartland Quay and Hartland Abbey, which are all close by, along with many pretty fishing villages to explore including nearby Clovelly, Instow and Appledore. For family fun the Big Sheep and Milky Way adventure parks are a must. Beach ¼ mile. Shop 1½ miles, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.

If you like peace and quiet, fresh air, long walks and fantastic views then this is the place to choose. A vert comfortable well appointed property for staying in or for going out. Close to the village, and a short walk downhill to the Hartland Quay Hotel where an easy menu will fulfil most appetites. Close to popular Clovelly which is a superb experience.

A wonderful cottage in an amazing location - we did not want to go home. We would recommend a wander around Hartland Quay and a visit to the museum there, also Hartland Abbey, Docton Mill gardens and tearoom, Morwenstow as well as just walking in any direction from the cottage itself. Pattards Kitchen was really good. The shop up the road at Stonebarton campsite was useful. The views are lovely - we miss them already.

Rocket House is a fabulous property in a stunning location on the cliff top overlooking Hartland Quay. The property is simply immaculate throughout! It has all the facilities that a family or a couple will need plus spectacular views of the amazing North Devon coastline in both directions. There are wonderful walks straight from the front door along the South West Coast Path where you can gaze at the breath taking views and astonishing geology of the rock formations. There are also beautiful woodland/coastal walks only a short drive away. We had a truly memorable holiday at Rocket House.
