Description

Nestled high above on the cliffs, this luxurious holiday property is the perfect retreat for relaxing and unwinding, with access to all the local amenities.

The Rocket House is a unique architect designed, luxurious holiday retreat, that is perched high on the cliffs beside the coastal path. Nestled within the Hartland Peninsula, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with breathtaking views over the Atlantic and further far reaching views down the rugged North Devon coastline and Lundy Island. Sitting peacefully within its own private garden, beside the National Trust coastal path, this stunning property, dating from the 1890’s, was originally the building storing the apparatus used by rescue services, which included a breeches buoy system, giving it the name Rocket. To allow the rescue teams to practice, a mast was situated on the Warren and the ‘Rocket’ shot at the mast, then the breeches buoy was set up and used.
Ideal for a seaside holiday at any time of year, the beach at Hartland Quay and popular Hartland Quay Inn is just a short steep walk away. The coastline, in both directions, offers some of the most breathtaking scenery in the west country and there are many long sandy beaches and hidden coves to explore. This property is beautifully presented, with stunning sea views from almost every room and a cosy wood burner to curl up beside on a cooler evening. Underfloor heating upstairs, oak floors and three beautiful bedrooms all with sea views downstairs makes this the perfect holiday choice for families and friends wishing to escape and unwind.
Hartland village is just 1½ miles away and has a good selection of village shops and highly commended pubs serving food. Bude, 13 miles, has a good selection of shops and restaurants, where many specialise in locally caught sea food. Alternatively there is a golf course, leisure centre with splash pool, surf schools and bowling. The delightful port town of Bideford is only 13 miles away and has a good selection of town amenities, restaurants a weekly market and boat trips to Lundy Island. Coastal walking, cycling, golf, riding, fishing, surfing and sailing are all available in this stunning area. Why not visit Docton Mill, Hartland Quay and Hartland Abbey, which are all close by, along with many pretty fishing villages to explore including nearby Clovelly, Instow and Appledore. For family fun the Big Sheep and Milky Way adventure parks are a must. Beach ¼ mile. Shop 1½ miles, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.

Rocket House is a fabulous property in a stunning location on the cliff top overlooking Hartland Quay. The property is simply immaculate throughout! It has all the facilities that a family or a couple will need plus spectacular views of the amazing North Devon coastline in both directions. There are wonderful walks straight from the front door along the South West Coast Path where you can gaze at the breath taking views and astonishing geology of the rock formations. There are also beautiful woodland/coastal walks only a short drive away. We had a truly memorable holiday at Rocket House.

A well maintained cottage situated directly on the coast path . The sea views from the cottage were amazing especially during the storms. We had some lovely walks along the coast path which was accessed from the garden gate. We were impressed by the lovely welcome gifts and the Christmas trees. Hopefully we will stay again in the near future. Thank you.

This is just the most incredible house, and was a dream come true to stay there. Unrivalled views over the Atlantic, looking directly west for beautiful sunsets. Location on the SW coast path is fantastic, and the remoteness of the house if just amazing if you want to get away from it all. Lynda was a very flexible and friendly host. Would love to stay again :)

Perfect position high on the cliffs at Hartland Quay with magnificent coastline views north sand south ,and additionally, because the property faces due west, superb sunsets in fine weather. The potential to eat out is limited although there is a hotel on the quay below the property, which does not offer a great menu, but passable according to taste.Further inland at Hartland village about 2 miles there are two pubs which we did not use,as not that inviting.Village shops were good. Property modern styling within a 19th century rocket house, very skillfully modernised and offering good accommodation for a family. We were two so found it ideal for our needs.

An absolutely fantastic place to stay. The view across the fields and out to Lundy is amazing, and especially when the weather is being at its most British you could appreciate this amazing piece of coastline. Loads of places to go walking, and the beach, whilst small was perfect for us, and you can top it off with a pint of local cider before walking back up the hill. The house is lovely and cosy with great facilities for a self catering holiday. Our party was four adults and a child and the Rocket House was perfect for us. We will definitely visit again!

Wonderful to be able to look out over the sea any time of the day. Sunsets were amazing. The walks along the coastal path although hard at some points, were worthwhile when you see the rugged cliffs and coastline. The Rocket House had everything that we needed, it was very comfy and had more than enough room for the five of us.
