Description

Contemporary styled accommodation offering superb 25 mile views towards the Malvern Hills.

The Rock is located in the picturesque Forest of Dean, on the edge of the Wye Valley, which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is a short forest walk from one of the finest viewpoints in southern England at Symonds Yat Rock. The River Wye meanders far below with spectacular far reaching views which has made it a very popular tourist destination since Victorian times. The forest was the royal hunting grounds of the Tudor kings and The Rock Inn, as it was formerly known, has its origin around that time. The Rock has not been a public house for many years but the two studios were built in what was the old skittle alley, and Forest Cottage is built on what was the site of the original stables for the old inn.
As this is a popular area for walking, guides and maps are provided to help you make the most of your stay. Cycling and mountain biking are also popular in the forest and bike storage is available. The area also provides plenty of opportunities for bird and wildlife watching, canoeing, climbing and even caving. Sheep are allowed to roam free within the statutory forest area and it is not unusual to see fallow and muntjac deer. Symonds Yat is home to peregrine falcon and goshawks are one of the more unusual birds to spot in the forest.
The Rock has a large private car park (from its heritage as a pub). The two studios and the cottage all have private patios leading to their own entrance so you are free to come and go as you please. All have views over the garden across open farmland to the Ruardean Valley stretching 25 miles to the Malvern Hills.
Forest Cottage is semi-detached, next to the owner’s home with a contemporary styled, open plan living/dining/kitchen area on the ground floor and a large upstairs bedroom with a kingsize bed and and separate shower room. This cottage is dog friendly and dogs can be exercised in the forest.
Ruardean Studio and Clearwell Studio are both ground floor, contemporary styled, open plan studios which enjoy fantastic views across the garden and open farmland. There is outdoor seating in which to enjoy a glass of wine and your favourite meals. These studios are pet free for those who may suffer with allergies.
Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant ¾ mile.

Well what a Great time we had in this very clean cottage and in such a beautiful location. Owners gave us a very nice welcome and lots of local advice on where to eat and walls in the area, location is really good for visiting Simon's Yat and Yat rock, Tintern and other places, would recommend this place and it's lovely views to anyone and we look forward to going there again, Brendan and Kaz.🌝

Lindy & Chris are the perfect hosts. Such a lovely couple who are always on hand (if you need them) but then leave you to enjoy a peaceful & scenic week in stunning surroundings. What they have created with the 2 brand new studios is a little peace of heaven in a very picturesque part of the country. They are very accommodating with local referrals for places to eat and things to do, the Cottage Compendium they've created is very valuable and lead us to some fantastic pubs & towns that perhaps not all tourists to the area will get to see. You can see that they are passionate about what they do and the area they live in. We will be returning in September / October hopefully and will be singing their praises to all our friends & family. Thank you both!

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thanks for your review. We love to give people lots of information so they can get the most out of this beautiful area. However we have to balance that against overload and tend to give information when asked. As a B&B which we were for 10 years, we provided our own walking maps and driving tours, with self-catering we found most people want to do their own thing so we don’t hand these out anymore but they are there if needed. Thanks again.

Very friendly and welcoming host. Ample parking. Beautifully prepared studio, with up to date facilities. Lovely views, and you can watch buzzards and other birds from the outdoor balcony. Only about 25 minutes walk through the forest to Symonds Yat.
