Lovely location overlooking the river. Sadly, the windows overlooking the river were filthy inside and out and somewhat ruined the view. The beds, kitchen and bathroom were clean and fresh but the rest of the house was covered in cobwebs and hadn't been cleaned thoroughly for some time. The house has a damp smell and is a little tired. Overall the house is in a lovely location but would need a lot of work and a deep clean for me to consider it again.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your comments and we are delighted you enjoyed the location. So sorry to hear about the windows not being clean enough. Even before reading these comments we had hired a window cleaner to clean all the windows, inside and out; I am just sorry it didn’t happen before your visit. We will be checking the house and ensure it has a good deep cleaning, but please also understand that being located in a woods next to a river, this is a constant battle for us and one we work hard to keep on top of, every week. Apologies again for not meeting your expectations.

The Pines has great potential being located next to the River Ayr, is well equipped and spacious but was let down by a poor level of cleanliness , for example the large window in the lounge/dining room overlooking the river was covered in handprints. Another example was the main shower drain being blocked, although this was cleared by the owner's partner on request on the day after arrival. There were also six lights where the bulbs had expired and others where economy bulbs had dimmed to an unacceptable level. Apart from these maintenance issues, instructions on using the television and skybox would have been useful. Information regarding use of the heating system and various appliances would also have helped. Generally we came away with a feeling that little attention was given to customer care as exemplified by a lack of contact by the owner.

The best thing about this property is the beautiful view over river and the location. The property itself needs some tlc and a good deep clean. The patio door was broken and couldn’t be opened which was a shame.

The house is lovely, well-equipped and comfortable but needs some investment, a bit of maintenance and a deep clean. Small things such as mending the patio door and broken decking and ensuring lightbulbs were working would make a big difference. The river views at the back of the house are wonderful - we saw birds, deers and squirrels and this aspect of the house is very impressive. The back garden is secure for dogs - however, the private woodland has areas of fencing missing and our dogs could have easily got under the front gate, both of which lead directly onto a busy road. The food at the Failford Inn is fabulous and highly recommended. Ayr gorge woodland is 2 minutes away and is a really lovely walk. Overall we enjoyed our stay and received a warm welcome but the house does need a little attention and improvement.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your comments and alerting me to this, we will be getting in extra help to give the house a deep clean to ensure it is up to our guests expectations. It has been a busy few months, but that is no excuse.
