This was our fifth consecutive visit. The cottage and the owners are delightful. That part of Essex/Suffolk/Cambridgeshire is outstandingly beautiful with so many places of interest that we still have not exhausted the list.

We had a wonderful stay at the Olde Cart Lodge over Christmas. It exceeded our expectations. The Lodge is very spacious, warm and comfortable. It is unclear from the photos but the lounge is open plan with the kitchen and dining area so it worked perfectly for cooking Christmas dinner and enjoying the family fun. The main reason for me booking was the Lodge had a decent sized lounge with comfortable sofas and extra chairs. Enough room for everyone in the family to relax. The bedrooms are a good size. Only thing to be conscious is the bathrooms (both good sizes) are attached to the downstairs bedrooms, so when someone is sleeping in the upstairs room they need to walk through one of the bedrooms to get to the bathroom. Not a problem but worth mentioning. The kitchen had everything we needed, beware that the fridge is quite small but there is a 3 drawer freezer. There is a good 4G reception so we didn't use the broadband. The owners live next door to the lodge and are very welcoming and helpful, offering to lend us cooking equipment for our Christmas dinner. The view over the valley and castle is beautiful and we sat and watched the snow as it flurried in. The village is a 20-30 min walk downhill across the fields with a couple of pubs, restaurant and small shop. The market town of Sudbury is apx 15 min drive away with large supermarkets, restaurants etc. I can't recommend this place enough and would love to return in the Spring or Summer to experience the different seasons.
