A tastefully decorated luxury holiday cottage with the owners living next door has been lovingly restored to create a peaceful retreat within the beautiful Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, boasting views of Beacon Fell. The large panoramic window in the living room opens onto a decking area, ideal for al fresco dining and star gazing. Views of Beacon Fell in the distance and a tranquil setting, with only the cows (and occasional deer) for company, make this the perfect place to relax and unwind. Outside The Old Woodshed, there’s ample private parking, lovely gardens, a stream and storage for cyclists to use.
From breathtaking vistas and valleys to star studded skies, it’s the perfect environment for lovers of the outdoors, heritage and delicious food and drink. It’s a place to enjoy and keep special and if you do fall in love with the Ribble Valley, you’ll be in the best of company; the Queen told her biographer that she and Prince Philip would like to retire here. The area is great for cyclists, with wonderful quiet lanes, or for those with a mountain bike, over the moors and through wide open forests. Nearby Gisburn Forest has miles of mountain bike trails for all skill levels. Walking is also a very popular way to get to know the area and there’s a good network of public rights of way within the area. The annual Bowland Festival plus the Pendle Walking Festival and Wyre’s Pathway events are good ways to begin exploring the landscape – whatever your ability.
The Old Woodshed is adjacent to Barnsfold Waters, a beautiful trout fishery set in a stunning location. Fly fishing only with expert tuition and boat hire are available by prior arrangement and at cost, it makes for a wonderful day out. And for something a little different, the Bowland Forest Gliding Club is also on the doorstep. The Ribble Valley is fast gaining a name for itself as a gastro destination, with many discerning pubs and restaurants in the local area, using local produce which, in turn, has reinvigorated traditional farming and artisan food production. There’s a world of wonderful places to dine in the surrounding area from fine dining gastropubs and artisan brewers to the very best fish and chip restaurants. The delightful owners of The Old Woodshed, being passionate foodies themselves, can offer a range of delicious home cooked meals (payable locally) for the odd night you decide to stay in. Excellent local pubs are a 2-minute drive away with Longridge, the gateway to the Ribble Valley, just 5 miles away.
Pendle Hill is just a short drive away, Cumbria, the Lake District and Kirkby Lonsdale are a 45-minute drive, Lytham, St Annes and the Fylde coast are 30 minutes away and historic Clitheroe is 20 minutes away. The Old Woodshed is suitable for wheelchair users, with level access throughout, wide opening pocket doors, level access wet room and all weather access ramps and decking. There is also a network of Trampers available for hire, locally. Trampers are specially designed four-wheel drive all-terrain electric buggies, which can be used off road and even on rough ground, mud and grass. Beach 15 miles. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 3 miles.
