The Old Weigh House lies in the heart of picturesque Kirkby Lonsdale, a popular market town in South Lakeland. Bordering Lancashire, Yorkshire and Cumbria, the property offers easy access to both the Lake District and Dales National Park and the scenic Morecambe Bay Coast. Sited in the former 13th-century Swine Market where pig sellers traded their animals, this contemporary Scandinavian style property is furnished to a high standard throughout.
Kirkby Lonsdale sits on the River Lune and John Ruskin, the renowned art critic, poet and prominent social thinker of the Victorian age, referred to the town as one of the loveliest views in England. The vista from St Mary’s Church close to The Old Weigh House was painted by JMW Turner and is now known as Ruskin’s View. The word ‘Kirkby’ is Scandinavian for ’Settlement with a church’. Kirkby Lonsdale offers a broad range of independent shops, charming tea rooms, high quality restaurants and pubs within 50 yards of the property.
This part Grade II listed property is perfect for the discerning guest. Couples looking for a romantic escape and families wanting to enjoy quality accommodation will find The Old Weigh House an ideal location. A spacious and comfortable living room offers the chance to ‘people watch’ over the cobbled former market place. Alternatively, close the shutters, open the wine and curl up on the stylish leather sofa to enjoy a well-earned rest after a day exploring the local area. Shop, pub and restaurant 50 yards.

A first class holiday cottage - it felt more like a cherished home rather than a well used holiday let. The cottage is beautifully situated for all that Kirby Lonsdale and the stunning surrounding area has to offer. Spending time in the cottage was an important part of our holiday and it was a joy to return to at the end of each day.

A fine cottage for 2 adults but 4 would find it cramped and the lack of an ensuite upstairs a bit restricting The equipment is excellent if a bit high tech for oldies like us The church clock striking every 15 minutes all night might disturb some light sleepers

Lovely cottage, very well furnished and well equipped. Centrally located with dedicated parking a real bonus. Had a nice feel about it, too, unlike some holiday cottages which can be bare and soulless. Pity about the build up of mould in shower area, since cleanliness was otherwise excellent- maybe a need to provide direction for cleaner? Other than that single issue, the standard of this cottage was superb

Our second visit to the Old Weigh House and it won't be the last, wonderful cottage, spotless clean, well equipped, brilliant location, only seconds from the High Street, but far enough away for it to be peaceful and the benefit of your own private parking. I would highly recommend this property

First time at The Old Weigh House, but not first time to Kirkby Lonsdale. Four adults stayed - two pensioners and two middle aged. The house is beautifully, but comfortably, furnished. Having a ground floor bathroom and bedroom was great for the older couple. Kitchen was spacious with quality cooker and microwave. The dining table is a touch on the small side and a slightly larger table would be more suitable. There is room, and as this has been mentioned in other reviews, maybe the owners will change it. The bedroooms were lovely, we all slept well. I would have preferred a softer pillow, but this is personal choice. Yes, an upstairs toilet would make this cottage perfect, but there isn’t the room. We have already booked again. There is parking for two cars which is brilliant in Kirkby Lonsdale. The gifts on arrival are very thoughtful. Overall a fantastic place.
