This unique, thatched, former school house (circa 1812) with many original features and landscaped gardens lies in the heart of this pretty Cornish village. Grade II listed and converted to a beautiful holiday home, it stands detached, and there is the original stone fireplace and a 50" TV in the living room, and a 42" TV in the master bedroom. The well-equipped kitchen/dining room benefits from an inglenook fireplace and a picture window. Boasting panoramic views over Veryan, famous for its historic roundhouses, it is excellently located to explore the picturesque Roseland Peninsula, less than a mile from Pendower and Carne beach, one of the finest sandy Cornish beaches (8th best British beach according to the Sunday Times of 5th July 2015), and provides a wonderful setting for dog walking. Portloe has a harbour where crabs, lobster and fish can be bought for a beach barbecue. Shop 100 yards, pub 50 yards.

Nice house and exactly how it looks in picture - inside is characterful - sloping floors, low doors. Furnishing all okay but simple. Drive is very step and hard to get onto and joins road on blind bend

Pluses: 1. Great elevated location central to the village. 2. Character thatched property with good-sized lawns front and rear. 3. Views over village to pretty landscape. 4. Everything we used worked! Could improve: 5. Garden was somewhat cheerless without floral colour; just lawn and roughly clipped hedges. Found dog poo in one corner. 6. Wash line should be much longer and able to be strung up in the garden. Or provide a rotary line. 7. Rather too many health & safety warning notices. In particular the no entry/exit signs for lower garden steps. If it is unsafe, or shouldn't be used for some other reason, chain it off at each end. Providing 'sudden drop' signs despite the hazard being fenced is weird. 8. Annex kitchen was short of quite a few utensils. 9. Upstairs configuration somewhat strange. A vast bathroom full of various sanitary ware seems better used as a bedroom?

Overall we enjoyed this cottage. On the plus side there is plenty of hot water and the WiFi was constant and strong and it was situated in a perfect place to enjoy the beautiful beaches and countryside. A few things we felt we should mention were firstly the drive is very hard to maneuver on and off! If you are not a confident driver you could easily find yourself in a bit of a situation. Secondly, and more serious is that the door to the annex is very low. Being painted white and both the corridor and room inside painted white means you don't see it coming! The "please mind your head" sign is on the door which is open so you don't see this either! The end result for us was that two of us ended on the floor with blood on the door frame and one of us nearly being taken to hospital after being knocked out! Thankfully my wife is a nurse and was able to treat the injury. Perhaps a better sign or even painting the frame a different colour might help this to prevent this happening to others?

Superb location Main bathroom is excellent but the ensuite is too small Kitchen very well equiped Lounge was comfortable - the giant TV seemed a bit incongruous and the reception was poor with frequent pixelation - also the video player only generated black / white pictures on the screen - no instructions on operation of the 2 DVD palyers Enjoyable holiday
