This property is part of our Welcome Cottages collection

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

This holiday cottage is perfect for a getaway with your loved ones. Head out and see all that Chester and the surrounding areas have to offer.

Located in the village of Farndon and just 9 miles from the historical city of Chester, The Old Post Office is a charming terraced cottage that offers bright accommodation, which is well located for exploring both sides of the England/Wales border. Downstairs is an open plan living/dining room/kitchen, with stairs leading to two comfortable bedrooms and a well-appointed family bathroom.
Outdoors is a small enclosed seating area, perfect for enjoying your morning coffee or catching the last of the evening sun. Located on the high street, the cottage is just a few minutes’ walk to the village’s amenities, which include a restaurant, coffee shop, butchers, newsagents, pharmacy, post office, general store and florists, which is owned by Princess Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell. The village has several historical buildings; including the Grade I listed bridge over the River Dee, which links Farndon to the Welsh village of Holt. By standing on the bridge, you can literally have one foot in England and one foot in Wales.
Visit Chester, with its wealth of historical buildings, old city walls, cathedral, racecourse, excellent shopping, bars, restaurants and of course, the popular tourist attraction Chester Zoo. Other cities within easy driving distance include Liverpool, Shrewsbury and Manchester, which can all be reached in under an hour. Over in Wales, the market town of Wrexham is just 6 miles away and there is a bus service which links Wrexham to Chester via Farndon, should you wish to leave the car behind. For those who prefer the coast, the North Wales beaches of Rhyl, Prestatyn and Llandudno are all within an hour’s drive. Other places worth visiting include Llangollen, 19 miles and Snowdonia, 40 miles. There are lots of great walks and cycle routes in the area, as well as several golf courses within 5 miles. Shop and pub ¼ mile, restaurant 50 yards.

The Old Post Office has everything we needed, was spotless, well appointed and set in a beautiful village. The Farndon pub serves good food, but does not serve food on Sunday after 5:30PM. We would book this cottage again and, we will recommend it to family and friends.

Our second stay in this lovely holiday home. It provides everything we need, is in a friendly Cheshire village and is only short drive away from family members whom we like to visit.

Excellent property in a lovely village, close to Chester, North Wales and Welsh Marches, but with many walks on your door step. The Old Post Office was clean, well presented and parking never an issue with parking outside in the street. The weather while we were there was very hot, and we had to keep the bedroom windows open at night, but thankfully the street outside is quiet enough to allow this to happen. The outside area is small, and can only take a small amount of washing on the line as the bins are also stored in this area. Plenty space in the accommodation, especially downstairs, as well as the master bedroom.

The Old Post Office is now number one on our list of favourite holiday cottages. We loved everything about it and, with family living in Chester, we hope we'll be able to stay there again later in the year. Thank you!
