This holiday property is surrounded by wild flower meadows and is close to East Bere Forest and Southampton.

This delightful detached holiday property, formerly the pigsty as the name suggests, stands within the grounds of the owner’s thatched country home, surrounded by fields, some wild flower meadows and with direct access onto public footpaths. Offering plenty of light due to the vaulted open-plan living space and folding patio doors, this attractive conversion offers an ideal base for sightseeing or walking. There is a cycle track 55 yards away, which goes from Alton to Fareham, and linking to the South Downs National Park. Also nearby is Bere Forest, a 100-acre woodland area with walks and play areas. The River Meon is close by and is great for trout fishing. Within the grounds are swings for children, plus a sports/soft ball ground and a chicken run. The property is an excellent touring base, with Winchester Cathedral, The New Forest, Chichester, West Wittering, Jane Austen’s house, Gilbert White’s Museum, Hambledon Vineries, Watercress steam railway, Marwell Zoo, Peppa Pig World and maritime history at Portsmouth and Southampton, all within a 30-minute drive. Beach 10 miles. Shop 2 miles, pub 0.5 miles, restaurant 1 mile.

3 steps to entrance (alternative level rear access). Ground floor: Living room with double sofa bed and patio doors/dining room/kitchen with wooden floors. 1 double (5ft) bedroom. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet.

Wonderful, cosy cottage in a peaceful location. A few days of bliss within reach of a variety of attractions to keep the little one happy. Thoroughly recommend.

Nice enough cottage but it’s really only big enough for 2 people. There’s a tiny room as a kind of mezzanine with 2 small single beds but the ceilings are too low and the loft ladder to get to the room is not ideal. There’s a pull out sofa but it’s not really practical. It was too small for a family of four and a dog. The cottage was nice enough although we found it was pretty dusty. The pictures don’t show how close it is to the owners house. It’s right next door pretty much and next to the parking area for the owners cars. Saying that the owner was a nice enough chap. Very Friendly and approachable. The cottage is situated in the gardens of the owners house which can be used by the kids. They enjoyed the play area and sports equipment although it did tend to feel a bit awkward due to the close proximity.

We have just spent a brilliant Spring Bank holiday weekend staying at The Old Pigsty. The accommodation was excellent and ideal for the two of us with our dogs. We were visiting family locally and were able to entertain them in the space. The weather was hot and sunny and so it was really good to be able to eat outside with the provision of more than ample garden furniture. We liked the secure fenced area of the garden adjacent to the accommodation which meant that we could keep our dogs under supervision but being able to share the owner's garden and play equipment was an added bonus when our 4 year old grandson visited. There are excellent walks within feet of the property and we enjoyed being able to walk along the disused railway line and down to the river.

Everything was present, all we needed was there. We had enough space. Everything was working. The owner was very easy to reach, and our privacy was hugely respected. It was sometimes difficult to prevent our dogs from barking when the owners' dogs came sniffing the fence of our little garden. Also our dogs found it hard to relax due to the underfloor heating. This was something we could not predict. We do not blame the owners for this , it's just something we learned...

enjoyed our stay at the pig sty lovely warm comfortably cottage , the only negative was that the wi-fi reception was poor at times.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Living rurally the Wi-Fi was slow, however, if it had been reported we would have tried to make it a bit better. However, I am pleased to say that we now have fibre connected to the property and so the Wi-fi is excellent.

Cosy small barn in a lovely area. Walks close by. The kitchen area and oven need some attention. Lovely bathroom and ground floor bed very comfortable. Open tread stairs take up a bit of room. It was a cold weekend but very warm in the property with the underfloor heating. Secure enclosed garden for our dogs. Owners have 2 friendly dogs which wasn’t noted in description. We stayed for a weekend just about right. Overall though a good getaway from it all. Included WiFi but poor reception.
