Description

Enjoy numerous walks or caving in the local area, or simply spend a relaxing day exploring the farmers’ market in nearby Cheddar.

This detached, converted log store is adjacent to the owner’s home and situated in a peaceful, village location. It has been lovingly restored with beams and still has the original high ceiling, but now with contemporary décor and underfloor heating. It provides an excellent holiday base from which to discover the unspoilt countryside, with a plethora of outdoor activities and interesting places to explore. Walkers are especially well-catered for, with a footpath to the quaint medieval village of Axbridge, and the West Mendip Way. The Somerset Wetlands offer superb bird watching facilities for nature lovers, along with the nearby Willow Craft Centre. For the more adventurous, there is always potholing on the Mendips or caving in the gorge. During October/November, the surrounding market towns host the famous West Country Carnivals. Cheddar, world famous for its gorge, caves and cheese, is only 10 minutes away. Farmers’ markets are held in both Cheddar and Axbridge on alternate Saturdays, or for a larger, French-style market, there is always the delightful city of Wells, England’s smallest cathedral city. Wookey Hole Caves and paper mill on the outskirts of Wells are well worth a visit, as is Clarks Village factory outlet complex in Street for the shopaholics. All three destinations are within a 30-minute radius. There is also a choice of three golf courses in the immediate area. A little further afield is the World Heritage city of Bath, Yeovilton Air Museum and the Bath and West Showground, all well within an hour’s drive. The coastal resorts of Burnham-on-Sea, Weston-Super-Mare and Clevedon are also within an easy drive. Beach 8 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

All on ground floor: Living/dining room with beams. Kitchen. 1 double (5ft) bedroom. Shower room with toilet.

Oil underfloor central heating, electricity, bed linen and Wi-Fi included. Freeview TV. Electric cooker. Microwave. Access to owner’s washing machine. Freezer. Sitting-out area and furniture. Parking (1 car). Shared tennis court on request. Welcome pack. No smoking.

A very charming cottage - cosy, modern and spotlessly clean. We had a very comfortable stay and found the rooms nice and warm when visiting during the Autumn months. The cottage felt a little bigger than what we thought from the photos and the facilities were excellent- fantastic shower and a fully equipped kitchen. It is a bonus that the cottage had underfloor heating - great when returning from a long walk! Furthermore, it was also dog-friendly. The hosts were very warm and welcoming and greeted us as we arrived, sharing some useful insight into the local area and recommending some tried and tested nearby restaurants, pubs, walks and general local info for days out. They even shared some of their baking with us on our last day! The location is perfect as a base for exploring Somerset and whilst the local amenities are not on the doorstep, the journey to the local shops is rather short by car and a pleasant drive. The location is perfect for visiting Axbridge (lovely medieval town), Cheddar, Wells, Glastonbury, Bridgwater and other key Somerset sights. In short, we were delighted with our stay and highly recommend the Old Log Store for anyone wishing to visit Somerset - you will not want to leave! We have our sights set on booking a second visit in the Summer.

a nice 5 night break ,cottage is nice and cosy with everything you need, located in a ideal position for exploring somerset, great that it took dogs only downside of the stay was you had to walk your dog across a busy roads if they needed the toilet,a small fenced off space outside the cottage would solve this, also the front door key is a nightmare to open the both inside and out which could be sorted easily and was very frustrating ,thankyou for the eggs and local apple juice which was nice.

A lovely couple with a great place to stay. Great location for getting to a range of places - we went to Burnham on Sea, Weston, Brean and Cheddar and all with 20/25 mins or so. Two pubs local that can be reached with a short walk. Our dog loved it there and many places around were dog friendly. Kitchen has everything you need and it is a nice, quiet place to stay - we enjoyed sitting outside having a drink. Some people have said you might feel overlooked as opposite owners home but we didn’t hardly see the owners (even when they were there) and didn’t feel uncomfortable at all. A genuinely lovely place to stay - it felt safe, the car was secure and we would definitely use it again!

Had a lovely 2 night break at the Log Store. Matt and Corinne were very helpful with suggestions of walks around the area and dog friendly beaches, even lent us towels ! Text us while they were out and about at a local Farmers Market to let us know it was on, they couldn’t of done any more to make us feel welcome.
