This property is part of our Welcome Cottages collection

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

This Grade II listed cottage lies close to the sea on the "Garden Coast" in South Kent.

The Old Laundry Cottage is an enchanting, Grade II listed, late Georgian cottage forming part of a small terrace of character cottages located on a no through road, within the conservation area just off the historic High Street. This atmospheric property is furnished with an eclectic mix of antiques and vintage furniture, is well-equipped and tastefully presented. The cottage provides an ideal location for a romantic short break or a longer stay and benefits from a small enclosed, private rear courtyard with table and chairs for those quiet evenings. The historic Cinque Ports town of Hythe boasts a bustling and thriving high street with an array of independent shops, cafés, restaurants, art galleries and studios, all literally a stone’s throw from the cottage. There is also a supermarket nearby.
The Old Laundry Cottage is just a few yards from The Royal Military Canal with its pleasant canalside walks, and on sunny days, rowing boats may be hired so you can enjoy a different view of this pretty seaside town. For the less energetic, there are leisurely trips available along the canal on an electric boat. A short ten-minute walk from the cottage, through beautifully tended gardens, takes you to the shingle beaches of Hythe Bay, where there is swimming for most of the year, a seafood restaurant with views across the English Channel to France, in addition to the golf links at The Imperial Hotel (daily and weekly membership available).
There are sandy beaches at Dymchurch and slightly further afield at Camber. Hythe is also home to the world famous small gauge Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway which offers trips through Romney Marsh in its unique small scale carriages, pulled by steam engines through The Marsh to Dungeness, which is a World Heritage Site. Its eerily bleak and hauntingly beautiful landscape attracts artists from around the world and an array of sea birds (both permanent and migratory) makes it a bird watchers paradise. The cathedral city of Canterbury is about half an hour away by car, the Channel Tunnel terminal at Folkestone (for day trips to France) is about a ten-minute drive away and for those interested in wildlife, the pioneering Port Lympne Nature Reserve is also about a ten-minute drive from the property. Beach ¼ mile. Shop, pub and restaurant 20 yards.

Ground floor: Living room. Dining room with wooden floor. Kitchen with wooden floor. First floor: 1 double (5ft) bedroom. Bathroom with bath, shower attachment and toilet.

Gas central heating, gas, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Welcome pack. Freeview TV. DVD and small library. Gas hob. Electric oven. Microwave. Washing machine. Fridge/freezer. Wi-fi. Small enclosed courtyard with sitting-out area and furniture. Public car park, 100 yards (foc). No smoking.

A very warm welcome from Val and a much appreciated arrival hamper. A very cosy and quaint cottage in the heart of town. On a bus route to Folkestone, Canterbury, Dymchurch and Rye. Would highly recommend.

The Old Laundry Cottage was delightful. Communication with the owner was excellent and her warm and friendly welcome at the cottage was just right. We had a very comfortable stay in spite of pretty awful weather. Unusually for us we didn't take our car out at all as we didn't exhaust the local activities.

This was an excellent cottage to stay in, full if interest and home comfort. The location to places of interest, for us, was really suitable, and we looked forward to going back to the cottage at the end of each day. We partly chose the cottage for its location, and the fact we could choose it for a short break - other places don't always offer this.

we loved the cottage - just off the high street in Hythe but very quiet. It had almost everything we needed and was warm and cosy - a minor point but we'd have loved a larger teapot and cafetiere as the types there were only for 1! Apart from the high street with its varied independent shops, cafes and restaurants, we enjoyed walking along the seafront, fish from Griggs and the railway to Dungeness.

The old laundry cottage is in a good location. The high street is just around the corner. Lovely coffee shops and butcher. We even didn't bother to drive to somewhere. Perfect for the long weekend.

This cottage is in a fabulous location close to the high Street and sea front in a quaint little town. The only reason I didn't give an overall rating of 10 is because of the very minor issue with car parking i.e on a couple of occasions I was not able to park in the nearest car park but it is only a short walk to the next nearest so it wasn't a disaster! The cottage itself is really warm, welcoming and cosy and very well equipped to a high standard. Val also was very welcoming and helpful - we had a fabulous holiday and would definitely recommend this cottage
