This property is part of our English Country Cottages collection

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

Dating from the 16th century, The Old Hall Coach House is adjacent to the Grade II listed Tacolneston Old Hall, situated just 5 miles from Wymondham.

Built and designed by Sir Robert Baldock, a member of the Kings Council, this lovely detached property still has many original features including beamed walls and ceilings. Renovated to a very high standard by the current owners, it has been stylishly decorated and furnished to provide beautiful and relaxing accommodation for discerning guests. The property benefits from underfloor heating with hard floors throughout and a woodburner in the living area and has its own large garden area with a courtyard hot tub and outdoor furniture.
It enjoys the perfect position to explore the area, and close by lies the bustling market town of Wymondham, which offers lots of great places where you can eat and shop, along with an indoor swimming pool and leisure centre. It’s worth taking the time to visit picturesque Wymondham Abbey, a magnificent Norman church established in 1107 as part of a monastic foundation. You can be in the medieval city of Norwich in 20 minutes. Here you will find the finest standing example of a Norman castle in the whole of the UK along with a magnificent Norman cathedral, numerous museums, theatres, art galleries and a full range of leisure activities. The city boasts numerous lanes and alleys full of quirky shops as well as two indoor malls, numerous cafés and fine dining restaurants. The surrounding countryside provides endless opportunities for cycling and walking, for a change of pace, head to Thetford Forest and High Lodge, a recreational site with walks and cycle routes along with more challenging mountain bike trails, and Go Ape treetop adventures. In just 30 minutes you can also be at Wroxham, the gateway to the Norfolk Broads, where you can charter a day boat or join an organised tour. The North Norfolk coast can be reached with a 40 minute drive, or you can explore the east coast at picturesque Winterton, where you can see grey seals in their natural environment and Great Yarmouth, where you will discover all the fun of fair and glorious beaches. Head south to Southwold with its Victorian pier, or even a spot of crabbing at Walberswick, all under 30 miles from the Coach House. Add in several National Trust properties, excellent museums and birdwatching activities, zoos, golf, fishing, salt, fresh and game, and you will soon see why this part of Norfolk is so popular with guests who return year after year, and you will be sure to return to The Old Hall Coach House too. Shop 4 miles, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

Loved this cottage and it’s layout. It was perfect for our little family and friends over a long weekend. Location was so peaceful which gave us the peace & tranquility we all needed. The only negatives are that the only mirrors were located within the bathrooms, not helpful when needing to dry & straighten hair as only a shaving electric point. And the high chair requested for our 5 month old had no straps so we had to makeshift our own which wasn’t overly safe....would suggest buying straps or perhaps a replacement high chair. Overall though it was great and we are already talking about returning with others next year

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thanks for the feedback Vickie and so glad you enjoyed your stay. Good point re the mirror we will add more. Apologies re the highchair. We were not aware the straps were missing we will sort. Hope we see you again soon.

Lovely cottage with lots of space so you never felt on top of each other. Only 20 minutes from the centre of Norwich, 15 from a large Tesco and about an hour from the coast. Loved the log burner, hot tub and roll top bath. Lounge area is comfortable with a smart TV connected to the internet so you can watch iPlayer. Wifi is good for a village location. Just one or two things that would be worth the owners doing to bring it up to a 10. No potato masher, no coasters or mats to protect the lovely furniture, some extra flat oven trays for cooking chips, etc., more than two toilet rolls (for a party of six for a week!), no bin bags, only two dishwasher tablets, no dishcloth, no soap for washing hands, etc. Wasn't expecting to have to go shopping for essentials at this price point. Would rather have those in place than a free bottle of wine.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thanks Steve, we have followed up on expectations with the Agency and think that for a self-catering venue we should provide things for guests arrival but not supplies for their whole stay. We will definitely add another cooking tray and coasters. Many thanks for the feedback.

A stunning house which is beautifully decorated! It is wonderfully cosy and we felt at home within five minutes of arriving. The owners left a very sweet welcoming gift and all the rooms were laid out beautifully. The instructions for the hot tub were very clear and easy to follow, meaning we got to enjoy it all three nights we stayed. Overall we would recommend this accommodation to everyone!

The Old Coach House itself was lovely and tastefully decorated / well presented; it can easily accommodate 6 adults without it feeling small. It has a fantastic, large, secure garden which is perfect for dogs. Letting it down slightly were the beds, particularly the ground floor kingsize bed. This bed would not suit light sleepers as it has a VERY noisy metal frame. In addition, frustratingly, the pillows easily slip through the metal headboard. Another improvement required is the washing machine. This machine is unpleasantly loud during its spin cycle.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your feedback we are glad you enjoyed your stay. We have not had either of these points raised before so will look to address these.

The old hall coach house is a fantastic place to stay if you want time away from it all. Lots of room inside and outside. Tastefully decorated and well presented. Large enclosed garden, which the children and dog loved playing in. My favourite thing about it was the hot tub. Would definitely recommend.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you. We’d love to welcome you back.
