Yorkshire Cottages

The Yorkshire Regional Specialist -Fantastic properties in the most favourable locations. No one knows Yorkshire better!

Description

This former blacksmith’s forge offers cosy and romantic accommodation for two guests. Set in beautiful countryside close to Bridlington, be sure to explore the coast, North Yorkshire Moors and the Wolds.

A stunning little property full of character and charm, attached to the owners’ cottage yet still very private. Set in the beautiful countryside just outside the traditional seaside resort of Bridlington, is this quaint little cottage which used to be the blacksmith’s forge. The cottage is delightful and has been restored to a good standard yet keeping lots of original features including the original forge which is now home to the multi-fuel burner. The bellows sit in the corner, reminding you of the cottage’s original purpose to shoe the horses which came from the local farmers or the stately homes that surround the area. The open plan kitchen/lounge leads through to the beautifully presented bedroom with its French doors which lead out to the terrace and shared garden. A perfect getaway for couples, this cottage is a great base to see the coast, the North Yorkshire Moors and the Wolds.

The town of Bridlington is just three miles away with its long sandy beaches and busy working harbour, there’s plenty to keep you entertained. The famous Spa theatre has shows on throughout the year. There are also plenty of restaurants and bars in Bridlington, or why not eat at one of the village pubs nearer to the cottage?

If you enjoy stately homes, there are plenty within a short drive, including Sledmere House, Burton Agnes Hall, Sewerby Hall and Castle Howard. For the walkers amongst you, the Yorkshire Wolds has some of the best walks through the hidden valleys and sleepy little villages. The Wolds have been made famous by David Hockney’s paintings. He was inspired by the beautiful countryside of the Wolds, yet it still remains a very quiet and unspoilt area of Yorkshire.

The cottage is well placed to visit Flamborough Head, Filey, Scarborough and even Whitby, as well as the little villages dotted along the country roads with their duck ponds and stone cottages. The city of York is less than an hour away and it is well worth a visit. The striking minster stands proud in the centre and is one of the largest cathedrals in Europe. Visit the Shambles with its cobbled streets and overhanging timber framed buildings with little alleyways and interesting shops. Shop 1½ mile, pub and restaurant 2 miles.

This is our second holiday to this beautiful cottage. We had a fantastic week the cottage is located in an ideal area for visiting York, Scarborough, Filey and Flamborough Lighthouse etc. The cottage was spoiltless and well equipped. We enjoyed sitting out in the morning and evening overlooking the garden. Chris and Dave made us very welcome and we appreciated the lovely goodies in the welcome pack. The weather was very kind to us which definitely made for a relaxing holiday. Thanks again Chris for ensuring we had a great holiday.

Although the Old Forge is beautifully refurbished, fully kitted out with everything you would need and spotlessly clean we would probably not stay again. We felt that whilst Christine was incredibly pleasant, friendly and helpful, that when you rent a cottage it is for privacy and a home from home style and we didn't get that here, with the Forge still being attached to the main house. The garden is also shared and felt a little like we couldn't use the space as the owners were entertaining family. We stayed for a long weekend during the June heatwave, as a couple and a pampered pooch. The parking space is an added bonus - especially if you don't travel light like me! Overall we had a lovely break but was a little disappointed with the cottage for the money we paid.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your positive comments but really sorry to hear our cottage did not live up to your expectations. I would like to respond to your comments to ensure that other potential customers do not have the same disappointment. Regarding privacy; I would like to draw your attention to the first line on the property description – ‘A stunning little property full of character and charm, attached to the owners’ cottage.’ As for the garden; Again, I would like to refer you to the property description and additional property details - ‘The open plan kitchen/lounge leads through to the beautifully presented bedroom with its French doors which lead out to the terrace and shared garden.’ ‘Sitting-out area and garden furniture. Shared, enclosed lawned garden.’ Your stay was three nights and during that time our Grandchildren visited once for approximately 2 hours and on the Saturday afternoon, I sat out with a friend whilst my husband watched the England match with her husband. We have provided separate garden furniture for our guests away from our house and am really sorry you felt too uncomfortable to use those.

We had a lovely Easter weekend at the old forge. The weather was cold and rainy but the log fire was so cosy we didn’t mind one bit. We received a lovely warm welcome from Chris (the new owner) and had everything we needed to make our stay relaxing and peaceful (including a fantastic welcome basket).

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; So pleased you enjoyed your stay at The Old Forge despite the typical Bank Holiday weather.
