Response on behalf of the owner; We were very disappointed to have received this review. The barn is not neglected, we have worked extremely hard in making it the cosy, nice, warm, characteristic place that it is today. There are two sets of lights when you come into the garden, one of which lights the whole garden, so I don't think that would classify the lighting as very dangerous. We could not find anything disgusting about the kettle, I found that the switch was faulty and it has since been replaced.
The toaster was the same one that you used 18 months ago when you last stayed with us, since that time, therefore we are surprised by this comment. The toaster has since been replaced. Again, the early morning traffic is the same as it was on your previous stay so we are puzzled by the comment. We can confirm the downstairs radiators aren't rusting.
The radio alarm clock was not put in there purely to be used as a radio, more so for an alarm clock, again, they are the same radio alarm clocks as your previous stay. If you really wanted the radio, then the TV in the room is also a DVD/CD player and it also incorporates several radio channels.
In the eight years that the barn has been opened as a holiday let, we have always used the same brand of washing powder for the bedding, the same as you would have had on your last visit and we have not had any previous complaints. We set our high standards eight years ago and they still remain in place since then. Admittedly there are no towels in the kitchen, there are, however, numerous clean tea towels and oven gloves left in the kitchen along with three hand towels in each of the bathrooms, one of which is in the bathroom right next to the kitchen.
Since your last visit, we have had all three toilets as well as bathrooms and showers inspected by Severn-Trent Water Authority who assured us that there is no issue with the toilets. We supply an ample amount of toilet rolls in the barn, the same ones for eight years, we pay a lot of money for the toilet rolls and they are of a very good quality.
I am sorry you didn't see us on your arrival, however, you may recall that I spoke to you about two or three days before your arrival and informed you that we may not be there when you arrive and you said that was fine because you had been there before and you knew the layout and an appropriate place was agreed upon for you to let yourselves in. We have been with our agents, Cottages.com since we first opened eight years ago and I know that not all holiday lets have owners living in the same complex, some live hundreds of miles away and therefore a lot of guests let themselves in any way.
We are sorry that you have given us such a low score, however as can be evidenced from previous reviews the majority of our guests have enjoyed their stay and indeed we have many repeat guests.
All the points that you raised could easily have been put right had you come to our front door and told us of your concerns whilst you stayed with us, but you chose, for whatever reason, not to, which I am really sorry about as you know that we are very approachable, friendly people.
