The Old Explorers is well placed for exploring the Yorkshire Dales National Park, both on foot and by car. Walkers will enjoy hiking along the Nidderdale Way, a circular route that passes through the town, or for a more leisurely, flat stroll, walk the banks of the River Nidd upstream to a local pub. At the head of Nidderdale, set in a wildly rugged landscape, lie two reservoirs, the largest masonry stone dams in the world, popular with birdwatchers and walkers.
