We had a lovely couple of days at the Old Dairy for a family get together. There were plenty of crockery, cutlery and kitchen equipment to use and a lovely living space to spread out across. The bedrooms were warm and cosy and the whole cottage was very pretty and inviting.

It was lovely to spend Christmas together as a family. None of our own houses are big enough now. There are 6 adults, two children (6 and 4) and a dog. The Old Dairy was plenty big enough for all of us and was cosy and welcoming. The log burner made it so toasty. Very well equipped lots and lots of cutlery, knives, pots and pans, tea towels, towels, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, matches for the fire etc etc etc. There wasn't one thing we didn't have (we did bring more logs though and we used them). We managed to cook three roasts and all the veg on Christmas day. We all fitted around the table easily. The walks and the countryside are just beautiful. The pub in the village (The Selbourne Arms - no dogs allowed) was interesting! We all agreed that it was our best Christmas ever. Thank you The Old Dairy!

My friends and I have stayed at The Old Dairy before. The accommodation suited us well and we appreciated the complimentary bottle of wine! It would be useful to have a shower over the bath in the ensuite room. It looks like there has been one there before, looking at the fitting on the wall. The Saturday was wet and perhaps unwisely we decided to go to Marwell Zoo, about a 45 min drive away, which we enjoyed anyway. The rest of the time we did local things and enjoyed some walks. We may well enquire about staying again, for a third time, in about 18 months' time.

The house was perfect for 2 families as it was spacious and had plenty of bathrooms and was very comfortable. We spent the whole weekend going to the woods which was wonderful as it was so hot. On the negative side, there was only a small concrete garden which was not ideal for children and we did not know if we could use the farm fields or not - and the house was rather tierd and could do with being updated.

The cottage was extremely well equipped with more than enough Cutlery and crockery. There were lots of condiments, cleaning products etc that we could use from previous holiday makers. With a few changes this cottage would rate as excellent. The owner came to greet us soon after we arrived with a bag of charcoal and a bottle of wine. She was very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. There was a wicker box full of leaflets collected by previous guests so we were able to browse through and plan where we were going to visit during our week there. We had taken two dogs and there were some beautiful walks in the fields and woods around the cottage. We also found that all the pubs/ restaurants we visited were extremely dog friendly with plenty of water and treats for them. The Hawley Moose in Hawley is definitely worth a visit or two with an extensive menu of fabulous food.

It suited our needs perfectly. COMFORT was almost excellent, we had 8/9/10 people over the course of the week and we did not feel crushed at any stage. A King-size bed was advertised, but there did not appear to be one. There was no walk in shower on the ground floor (2 baths, 1 with a shower over), which would have made more sense for older people. Our 80 year grandmother did manage to make it upstairs to use the walk in shower on the first floor, though, but worth thinking about if you have anyone with access issues. EQUIPMENT brought the score down a little as the fridge door was missing the bottle holder part (where you would put your milk) and one shelf, so we had to be quite creative on storing food for 9 people for a week. We used our plug in cold boxes for extra space for bottles. The toaster was a bit hit and miss and the kitchen tongs needed replacing. The knives were very blunt and we had to sharpen them all (sharpener was provided). Knives should really have had separate storage as the cooking utensil drawer was very cluttered, so a bit dangerous getting things in and out. The were lots of huge knives, but only one small "sharp" one. There were no mixing basins, but a huge number of pans and oven dishes of various shapes and sizes. There was no plastic chopping boards for meat, fish or onions. They were all wooden so had to be scrubbed in the sink. There were no oven gloves as such, just padded squares which were quite difficult to use. CLEANLINESS - generally this was OK, but the curtain in one of the upstairs bedrooms gathered dead insects, because of the way it is hung. When we moved this on our arrival all of the insects fell on the floor and had to be vacuumed up. This is a working farm with a horse being stabled next door so there are LOTS OF FLIES. Fly spray is provided, but we bought fly papers in the end which worked really well. We did have to vacuum dead flies from the window sills twice whilst we were there. LOCATION was great for us as we needed to easily get to Guildford and Portsmouth over the course of the week. There are loads of things to do in the vicinity. Excellent for walking. LOCAL AMENTIES - the local village store has the basics and are very obliging (opened up and sold us butter after hours as she was still in the shop when we turned up rather late and hopeful!). Plenty of shops 6 miles away in Alton. Only use Alton Fish and Chips in Normandy Street if you are desperate! To be fair the fish a chips would probably have been OK, as it was all freshly cooked, but we then had to wait while he cooked onion rings he had forgotten and then again when he realised he had not done the scampi! They also ran out of change and had two attempts before they came back with some from neighbours (it was a little reminiscent of Julie Walters acting out the elderly waitress serving soup). Fortunately we have a good sense of humour! VALUE FOR MONEY - we were happy with what we paid. There is not loads of accommodation available to suit a big family, so it is difficult to compare. Our French friends thought it was very good value (possible due to the exchange rates at present!).

Lovely cottage with everything you would need for a lovely holiday. The rooms are a good size and the outside seating area is lovely. Is very much out in the countryside but most things are within driving distance.

Perfect place to retreat away to for the weekend. Right down the end of a country lane, so no through traffic which made for a very peaceful place to relax. Our group of 8 adults had a superb time! We didn’t manage to connect in person with the owner and were left to our own devices. With the April sunshine, we made use of the outdoor furniture and enjoyed lunch outside!

We had a fabulous 2 days and one night, we had to arrive a day late due to the snow but we were allowed to move our booking from Friday to sunday to Saturday to Monday. And they even offered to collect us from the town because the lane was still quite snowy. The cottage was perfect for a group of 7 girls on a relaxed hen do. We absolutely loved the location and property. We will be returning.
