In superb locations and beautiful settings. Cottages4you gives you a fantastic range of hand-picked properties with quality you can rely on.

An ideal location from which to enjoy many outdoor pursuits, including mountain biking, golf and cycling.

This beautifully restored, semi-detached cottage is conveniently situated on the Solway Coast Heritage Trail, and is an ideal location from which to explore this historic region of south west Scotland and enjoy the many outdoor pursuits, including mountain biking, golf, water sports and walking.
The Old Church Hall is conveniently positioned mid-way between the popular walking and world class mountain bike areas of Mabie and Dalbeattie forests. The rest of the 7Stanes routes are within easy reach, as well as the Galloway Forest Park which is the first designated Dark Sky Park in the UK.
Wildlife is in abundance with the RSPB Mersehead nature reserve just along the coast, famous for its rare natterjack toads and barnacle geese. In the woods and fields around the cottage you may see red squirrels, roe deer and red kite. Less than 4 miles away is the championship links golf course at Southerness. Slightly further afield are several other courses offering a variety of challenges. There are numerous walks to suit everybody, from beaches, coastal footpaths, linking villages to more strenuous hill walks, each giving panoramic views across the Solway Firth to the Cumbrian Lake District to the south, the Galloway Hills to the west and, on a clear day, even a glimpse of the Isle of Man. The spectacular Solway Coast is known for its golden sand flats with shingle, rock pools, fossil beds, cliffs and caves. The old port of Carsethorn, from where thousands of people emigrated to the New World, including John Paul Jones – the founder of the American Navy, is a peaceful place to walk with your dog on the beach or relaxing in the welcoming beachside, dog-friendly pub.
There’s no better place than Dumfries and Galloway to challenge yourself to a day’s fishing than the scenic unspoilt rivers and lochs. Nearby are several fisheries offering both fly fishing and coarse fishing. A variety of sea fish can be caught off the local beaches and boat fishing trips can be arranged locally. The warm waters of the Gulf Stream allow many exotic plants to thrive in the area and a number of gardens open to the public all year. Explore the many unspoilt villages and towns including the scenic seaside town of Kirkcudbright with its artistic heritage and Castle Douglas, the food town, which celebrates its local food and drink in June each year. The village of Kippford is a well-known sailing centre and there is also an activity centre at Loch Ken that offers either certificated courses or a day’s experience. The film set village of New Abbey, where the romantically named Sweetheart Abbey is situated, as well as a fully operating water mill and, not forgetting an award-winning tea room is worth visiting.
The Old Church Hall was originally a traditional ‘But and Ben’ and has been tastefully converted and equipped to a very good standard. The cottage had everything we required whilst away from home. The village was quiet and there were some lovely walks around the area that the dogs loved. The Steam Boat Inn was well worth the walk with great food and a fantastic view across the Solway Firth. Great location to explore the Solway Coast and the fantastic weather helped. Would definitely consider visiting again.

The cottage is beautiful, SHOULD have been 5*. But the owner knowingly rented the property with heating/boiler problems. Either heating OR hot water not both. Owner knew 3+ weeks prior to our arrival. (Last folks comment in visitor book, left-same reason) We arrived to be told of the problem, assured it would be fixed. Owner & or workmen in everyday while we stayed. This totally spoiled the freedom of the house. We had to go out all day and eat lunch out everyday in very wet weather. Worst still we couldn't get outer clothes dry due to patchy heating. Owner refused to give advance notice/call of his arrival. Despite repeated requests. We offered to go home on the Tuesday if he would reimburse remaining nights (4) he REFUSED this. A very disappointing stay not a holiday....left a day early as owner turned up in morning unannounced AGAIN! I was in the shower...privacy well and truly violated. I was given "1 hour " to get organised, so I packed up and left. To date the owner hasn't apologised. He took our money and rented a property not fit for purpose.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We were made aware 3 weeks before your arrival that there was a problem with the heating system and we contacted the Agency to make them aware and to seek advice. The system is only four years old and serviced annually. Taking advice from the Heating Engineer and monitoring the system regularly, we ensured that you had hot water and heating during your stay because we did not want to disappoint by having to cancel your holiday. In between this and your visit, there were two sets of satisfied guests who had no objection to our monitoring the system. On the one occasion when the hot water failed, we promptly corrected it. We discussed with all our guests on their arrival that we were going to monitor the system until we discovered the nature of the problem. This meant that we would be popping in most days to ensure that there was heating and hot water. We took into consideration the needs of our guests and tried not to inconvenience them so we did not fix a time but arranged to call when they would be out. At no point did we force guests to go out. When there are issues like this, as responsible owners, we need to get them assessed and fixed as soon as reasonably practicable which means we have the right to enter our property to carry out work, but we understand that this has to be done unobtrusively and minimise the inconvenience. This is why we called when you first arrived and discussed it. The technician arrived unexpectedly early, at 10:30am. We were told that you were in the shower. Not wanting to invade your privacy, we arranged for him to return an hour later giving you the time you needed. Following the technician’s visit and scan with a Thermal Imaging Camera, a tiny leak was found underneath the wooden floor and the water was draining down into the foundations. As we live locally, we are able to respond quickly and in person to any issue that occurs. Because of this we were able to keep the heating and hot water going throughout your stay so avoiding affecting your holiday. We tried hard to work around you so that you were not inconvenienced too much and were disappointed that you felt that you had to leave.

A beautiful and well equipped cottage, a very comfortable place to stay. The only issue was a problem with the hot water and the owner had to call round a few times to tinker with the boiler. We were without hot water one morning which was inconvenient but it was temporarily fixed the same day.

Cottage was excellent - probably the best holiday cottage we have had in the 15 years we have been staying in them. It was spotlessly clean and comfortable with everything we could possibly need. The enclosed garden was great for the dog and we did get to sit outside a few days without the rain!!

Response on behalf of the owner:- Thank you very much for taking the time so soon after your holiday to write such a positive review - we very much appreciate it. It will also help other future guests in their decision making. Thank you.
