Description

The Old Chapel is tucked away in Shaldon’s narrow streets, just 500 yards from a sandy beach and within easy reach of Torquay and Brixham.

Perfect for outdoor enthusiasts or just a relaxing break, this detached holiday cottage has been lovingly converted and tastefully modernised to a very good standard. Shaldon is a picturesque fishing village nestled at the mouth of the River Teign, and the Ness headland overlooks the mouth of the estuary, offering some of the most stunning views in the west country. The river beach and estuary is delightful, not to mention the famous Shaldon Ferry which runs along the river to Teignmouth. Take a trip to Torquay and stroll along the harbour, or hop on a boat to Brixham and visit the many cafés and restaurants. There are National Trust properties to explore, and Exeter, with its fantastic cathedral, canal and independent shops, is close by. Dartmoor with its tors and ponies, and lovely villages where you can stop to have a Devon cream tea, makes a great day out. With so many places to explore, one visit is never enough. Beach 500 yards. Shop, pub and restaurant 20 yards.

Wonderful place to stay but parking very difficult indeed. The ceiling in bedroom was much low, banging of head was regular occurrence. We are only 5FT 6" TALL No information pack, would have been useful. We left train timetables, bus timetables and places and things to do

Bedroom area not spacious, headroom limited. Chapel parking area only accessible by small car, just managed with Citroen C3. ( We were aware of this but it is truly narrow ) Long stay car parking appeared some distance away. For an elderly couple with suitcases a problem. Vacant short stay on road parking spaces almost impossible to find and we stayed out of season. Map and details of Council car parks and details i.e. parking costs and walking distances to the Chapel would alleviate stressful arrivals. Lovely location and great for a late season holiday. Overall mark of 7 because of the restricted access.

Great location, you do not need to use the car again if you want to stay local. Good access to the coast path and a bus stop around the corner. Access to the Chapel parking space could be a problem if you have a wide car. Clean and quirky with essential equipment, although a few more wine glasses could be provided.

The cottage was lovely. It was very well converted. However parking was an issue as we could not get our car down the alleyway. Shaldon is a beautiful village and looks stunning at night. The beaches are all interesting and have lots to discover. We spent a lovely afternoon on the beach at Slapton and enjoyed exploring the rest of the coastline visiting Dartmouth, Brixham, Paignton, Torquay, the amazing model village at Babbacombe, and enjoyed some walking on the coastal path.We visited the nearby national trust properties which were excellent and enjoyed walking round Dawlish and along the estuary at Teignmouth. All in all most rewarding!
