A beautiful Grade II listed, converted chapel, sitting in a commanding position offering fabulous views over Coverdale. Situated on the outskirts of Horsehouse, just over 2 miles from the village of Carlton and 8 miles from the market town of Leyburn, this wonderful holiday home has been renovated to a very high standard whilst retaining original features such as stained glass windows, a pulpit and a pew. The house is ’upside down’ to take advantage of the stunning views. There are three bedrooms on the ground floor, and both the en-suite and the family bathroom have underfloor heating. There is a separate utility/boot room on the ground floor, perfect for drying off coats and boots after a day of exploring the Dales.
From the entrance hall a lovely wooden staircase leads up to the impressive galleried first floor, a beautiful open plan living space with windows on all sides and stunning views over Coverdale. This spacious, light-filled room has vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, wooden floors and fabulous stained glass arched windows.
The quality fitted, shaker style kitchen, with granite worktops, double Belfast sink and all modern appliances, makes this the perfect place to cook up a tasty treat. A contemporary wood burner sits central to the room and makes for the perfect spot to gather around on a winter’s day. A large Smart TV, Wi-Fi, bluetooth soundbar, DVD player, board games and poker set are provided to ensure there is something to keep everyone entertained.
Outside, there is a small woodland area with a picnic bench, and a large courtyard with sitting-out area and garden furniture surrounded by a large boulder wall with plants and climbers. Please note that children would need to be supervised at all times, as the driveway is not gated and there is a drop from the grassed top of the boulder wall to the courtyard.
The Old Chapel provides the perfect rural retreat for those looking for peace, tranquillity and some of the most stunning scenery in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. There are a multitude of walking routes available straight from the door of The Old Chapel. At the end of the day there is a choice of the local village pub, or for a wider selection of fare, the community run pub in Carlton. The nearest village store is located in Middleham Village, and there are a variety of well-stocked family-run stores in Leyburn, such as traditional butchers and bakers, fashion shops, jewellers, gifts and homeware and a specialist delicatessen.

The hamlet of Horsehouse is located on the road from Middleham in Wensleydale to Kettlewell in Wharfedale. Middleham has lots to offer and is most famous for its castle, which was once home to Richard III, and is also home to several racehorse trainers, providing a wonderful sight each day as the horses and riders make their way through the village up onto the gallops. There is a village store and a small selection of tea shops, cafés and galleries all set around it’s pretty village square. Please note that the road from Kettlewell to Horsehouse is challenging at the best of times. During icy and snowy conditions it can become impassable. The road from Leyburn to Horsehouse has sections where it is single track with passing places. Shop 5 miles, pub 100 yards, restaurant 3 miles.
