Description

Character, beamed barn with wood floors, Blickling Hall close by, Norwich with its castle and market town of Reepham nearby.

Nestled down a quiet country lane on the owner’s working farm, The Old Barn is light and airy, and beautifully placed to provide the perfect setting from which to explore all that the area has to offer. The bustling market town of Reepham offering a range of shops and eateries is close by, as is one of Norfolk’s top visitor attractions, The Blickling Estate, with its splendid hall, which was once the home of the Boleyn family. With beaches in nearly all directions, you will be spoilt for choice. Cromer boasts a glorious sandy beach, a famous promenade and pier, which still offers a traditional end of pier show and has a host of cafés, and the market town of Sheringham with its shingle beach and over 1000 acres of parkland boasts 3 species of deer and numerous walks. Blakeney, with its picturesque quay, offers trips out to see the seals in the natural habitat, and Wells-next-the-Sea has a narrow gauge railway and a quaint mix of artisan and traditional seaside shops. For all the fun of the fair, plan a day out to Great Yarmouth, with its golden mile of seafront attractions and Pleasure Beach. Or, head to Hunstanton, with its Sealife Centre and a beach that really does seem to go on forever. If something more natural has more appeal, don’t miss out on spending a day or two exploring the Norfolk Broads where you can join an organised boat trip or even skipper your own launch as you explore the waterways, discovering the wildlife. Fishing available 1 mile away, daily ticket applicable with fishing licence. The medieval city of Norwich is also well worth visiting and has a splendid Norman castle, numerous museums, shops and restaurants to explore. Reepham, 1½ miles, a pretty market town with shops, cafes, pubs and a market day every Wednesday, selling local fresh produce. Great days out for the families visit the Dinosaur Park at Lenwade, 2 miles. BeWilDerwood, Horning 16½ miles. Amazona Zoo at Cromer 18½ miles and Pensthorpe Park 14½ miles. With all this on offer plus numerous stately homes and National Trust properties, fabulous bird watching opportunities at RSPB sites, gentle, scenic walks and cycling routes including Marriotts Way, and great places to eat, many of which use fresh, seasonal, local produce and you can see why you will probably need to return to The Old Barn again to make sure that you see everything that’s on offer. Shops and pub 1 mile.

Quiet location, good parking and plenty of space in the cottage. Laminate floors in main areas was great with small children. Satisfactory equipment in kitchen and in good condition. The pond in the garden mentioned in the details is in fact just beyond the garden fence and also has chicken wire fixed to the fence at lower level so it was no problem with small children. There appears to be an underground tank in the rear garden which has vent pipes, but was no problem and no smells. Garden at front and side slopes up from the cottage and was shaded in the morning and sunny in the afternoon, so sit in the sun at the rear in the morning and at the front in the afternoon. Plenty of space in the dining room and the two sitting rooms ideal for 4 adults and 2 children.

The Old Barn is a lovely place to stay and the owners are very welcoming. There is everything you could possibly require provided. Our party included a year old baby who loved investigating all the space, his parents, grandparents and great-great Aunt. We all loved the place! Lots of places to visit within reasonable driving distance although the seaside is a bit of a drive. The only very slight negative is that the nearest pub (in Reepham) isn’t far away but it’s not a good idea to walk there because there are no pavements. We recommend the Chinese takeaway in Reepham and the Buckinghamshire Arms (pub) at Blickling Hall...both did really good food.

Loved it! Spacious, light and airy, with plenty of facilities for a large group. Very quiet location, properly in the countryside, but close to a lovely market town and a good base to explore from - about 30 minutes of lovely driving to lots of great places. Lovely big TV, reliable WiFi, was a luxury for us to have a dish washer and more than one toilet! Very friendly owners and we saw lots of wildlife in the garden, including deer, rabbits and owls! We're going to book again for next year.

We had a wonderful stay in the old barn. Very comfortable, very well equipped and lots to do close at hand. Especially enjoyed the quiet location and watching the deer at the bottom of the garden. Most relaxing holiday ever, lots for our four children to do and so much space in the barn for us all to spread out.

We had a lovely holiday at The Old Barn. The owners were very friendly and helpful. The barn is lovely and warm, comfy and a good size for 6. We would definitely recommend staying there.
