Although the property was perfectly clean the facilities were quite frankly tired and in our opinion the property could do with major investment. It wasn't our first choice but was all we could get for when we wanted to go so we did sort of expect something not to our taste ( come on - fishing net with plastic fish on the wall !! ) Facilities also lacked certain things. Only 4 mugs and they were all caffeine stained. A TV in the lounge that was obviously old and we couldn't get the picture aspect to work resulting in only a half screen. Furniture needs replaced - it's ancient and the bathroom needs completely renewed to bring it up to a modern standard

Comfortable accommodation if a bit old fashioned. Dark wood doors and woodwork made the rooms seem dark. Excellent views across Kirkwall Harbour.

Ideally positioned on the side of an interesting, busy harbour. The cottage has room for parking a car at the side. It is well equipped and has the bonus of instant hot water. Kirkwall is a very pleasant town with the benefit of an excellent Information Centre. There are some excellent places to eat in Kirkwall.

We love Orkney and we’re supposed to stay at this house 3 years ago but I was taken seriously ill so we couldn’t come. This house is lovely and the garden is wonderful if you get the sunshine which we did sporadically. The view of the harbours comings and goings are great especially at night and seeing the cruise ships is great too. The kitchen is small but perfectly formed and well equipped, must say wasn’t keen on the outhouse but I do watch a lot of serial killer movies! But, and it’s a big but, the bathroom is dreadful. I know it was spotlessly clean but it was so dated and horrendously decorated that it wasn’t a nice place to be in. Honestly I wouldn’t come back specifically because of the bathroom and that is a shame. Plus throw away other people’s toiletries please. Modernise it and I wouldn’t hesitate to rebook.

The Nook was comfortable, clean, cosy and very well located. We enjoyed the views of the harbour and liked being within easy walking distance of the centre of Kirkwall. We would recommend the cottage as a base for visiting Mainland Orkney.

Brilliant position, comfortable and cosy living and dining rooms, pleasant bedrooms, however bathroom and, to a lesser extent the kitchen, need updating. Also significant amount of personal items gave a feel of living in "grandma's house".
