Description

Set in an AONB, this 19th-century, detached, characterful cottage is ideal for exploring Dorset, Devon and Somerset.

In rolling Dorset countryside, in the small hamlet of Kittwhistle and in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty between Lyme Bay (14 miles) and Chard (6 miles), this detached property has commanding views across a river valley and country and is in an excellent holiday location to explore Dorset, Devon and Somerset. Formerly three early 19th century cottages, it has been converted to a good standard, into one detached house for 8, with oak flooring, exposed beams, Aga (available October to April only), inglenook and one en-suite double bedroom (with balcony) and with its own garden. There is superb scenic walking locally along the Wessex Ridgeway, Jubilee and Monarch Trails, National Trust hill forts nearby and within easy driving the famous World Heritage Jurassic coastline resorts of Lyme Regis, West Bay (Bridport), Charmouth, Seatown and Eype, where one can enjoy the beaches, fossil hunting, excellent fishing, boating and wonderful coastal walking along this dramatic and beautiful stretch of coast, including Golden Cap (in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and one of southern England’s highest coastal points. The picturesque seaside resort of Lyme Regis, setting for the film ’The French Lieutenant’s Woman’, with its pretty harbour, cob, sandy beach and quaint shops, offers ideal family days out, or one can explore the whole length of this popular coast between Weymouth to Exmouth. Inland there are many historic houses, Forde Abbey and Gardens, Killerton House and Gardens, and Montacute House and Gardens to name a few. Family attractions at Cricket St Thomas Wildlife Park, Fleet Air Arm Museum, the Haynes Motor Museum and Crealy Adventure Park, or Exeter cathedral city with its catacombs, shops and restaurants is not too far. Shop 2½ miles, pub 1 mile.

Ground floor: Living room with beams and oak floor. Dining room. 2 steps to kitchen with beams. Utility. Separate toilet. First floor: 4 bedrooms, 2 double (5ft), one with en-suite shower room and toilet, 2 twin. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet.

Open fire in living room (initial fuel included). Oil central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels included. High chair. Two TVs (one digital). DVD (small library). Stereo/CD, Aga (October-April). Microwave. Washing machine. Dishwasher. Fridge/freezer. Enclosed lawned garden with patio and furniture. Balcony. Barbecue. Parking (3 cars). No smoking.

The Mill House is a fantastic venue for larger parties. Cottage owners are very pleasant and the cottage is a beautiful countryside escape with plenty of space. Beautiful places.

We had a lovely long weekend at Mill House. Sheila was very helpful and allowed us to change our booking to arrive a day later as the roads were not safe for driving on the Friday. The cottage was warm, comfortable and very spacious which we really appreciated. It was tastefully furnished and we had no problems other than a sudden loss of water which Sheila immediately sought to rectify. Fortunately, with the aid of a local man the problem was quickly identified and sorted. I would definitely book Mill House again and recommend to others.

This was the second time that we have stayed at the mill house for a birthday celebration and we love it. The mill house fits Eight adults comfortably and is in a beautiful location. We have already booked another weekend for next year
