This is the second time we have stayed at the Lodge; the first time was in 2016 and I understand that the property has changed ownership in that time. While the property still represented good value for money, we felt there were early signs of neglect; for example, the outdoor sitting area was very overgrown, one of the chairs was damaged, the door has dropped on its hinges and is difficult to lock/unlock, also inside the Lodge the living room carpet was badly stained. On the plus side, the location is ideal for visiting the Cotswolds and the Lodge is very quiet; we were comfortable and enjoyed our stay and would like to go back but hope the owners will address the issues I have mentioned.

This property was in a lovely location within reach of lots of interesting places but was rather small. It was adequatley equiped, the bed was very comfortable and had a reasonable sized bathroom. I was very disappointed with the cleanliness of the living room carpet which was badly stained in several places and smelt dirty. Having stayed at quite a number of self catering cottages this one has to be the worst value for money. This is the first cottage we have stayed in where the owner was not onsite or nearby and it lacked the personal touch that makes all the difference. There was no information about the workings of the cottage or the white goods or anything about local amenities especially doctor, dentist or chemist. It was only the quiet location and the beauty of the Cotwolds that commends it. We would not go again or recommend it.

This pretty little lodge house is detached in a quiet lane but is within about 5 miles of Bourton-on-the-Water and Stow on the Wold, a wonderful centre for seeing the Central Cotswolds. The open-plan lounge/dining-room/kitchen has everything one needs, except for a hood-ventilator over the hob, so that the smoke-alarm didn't like us grilling trout. Please see down to next box now for more:

Insufficient heating. Weather was extremely cold but cottage had very inefficient overnight storage heater. Only one for a fairly large area. There were two electric fan heaters but these are not a pleasant way to keep warm, and are ineffective. Conversely, upstairs bedroom was too hot with no control over level of heat. Heat wise, a rather uncomfortable stay. No Wifi. TV rather small. No waste bin. No welcoming touches (teabags, milk etc.) Very noisy adjoining garage - possibly a generator operating 24/7. Would be an issue during Summer if one wanted to spend time outside.

Unfortunately, this was a disappointment. The main issue was the state of the cottage when we arrived. Where other guests have commented on having had a welcome tray, we weren't so fortunate. Instead, there was rubbish left over from the previous occupants, including a half full fizzy drink which was left in the kitchen. Also some of the crockery was also dirty and meant we needed to give them a scrub before we could use them. The toilet also hadn't had a thorough clean. We tried calling the owners based on the number which was in our booking confirmation but got a message saying we had dialed an incorrect number. Also, what was irritating was having cleaners knock on the door disturbing us the day before we were due to leave to confirm we "were leaving today". Surely the correct day of departure should have been communicated to them. This was all a shame, and we appreciate that our experience is very likely the exception to the rule, given all the other positive reviews this cottage has had. Not sure why it slipped in this instance.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We are deeply sorry for this. We take pride in ensuring the Lodge is always up to the highest standard for our guests. After looking into this, we found this was due to changing professional cleaning company and a mix up on the dates. We have ensured this won’t happen again. We hope you can come and stay again.

Lovely little place with a lot of thoughtful touches by the owners, which were greatly appreciated
