Description

This holiday home is the perfect base for exploring the wonderful sights and delights of Somerset and the Mendips.

This delightful holiday home is set in the grounds of the owner’s home, Bainesbury House, and has been furnished to a very good standard. The ground floor is open plan, with bi-folding doors all along one side overlooking the neatly lawned garden, which is the perfect place to enjoy an alfresco supper in the summer. The Lodge at Bainesbury House also features a wood burner, so is great for the cooler evenings. This holiday home is set in a rural location, in the village of Stratton-on-the-Fosse, which is home to the Grade I listed Downside Abbey. It is also very close to the famous Babington House only 3 miles away. The heritage city of Bath is only a short distance away with its Roman Baths and pump rooms and the award-winning Thermae Bath Spa. The mystical town of Glastonbury with its famous abbey and tor, and the smallest city of Wells, with its magnificent cathedral and Bishops’ Palace, are all close by. Fishing nearby. Shop 1 mile, pub and restaurant 100 yards.

Welcoming and attentive owners, nothing too much trouble. Lovely setting and very comfortable accommodation. Many lovely places to visit in the area and beautiful countryside. The Lodge is right next door to the owners house and vehicular access to their house is across the front of the Lodge which is a little intrusive when sitting outside. Very dog friendly with lovely walks from the Lodge.

A great place to stay, half an hour from Bath. We enjoyed trips to the city, but also an opportunity to visit the Somerset Levels, Glastonbury Tor and Wells Cathedral. The Lodge is a luxurious , well-equipped base with a warm welcome.

My wife and I spent a lovely cosy and relaxing Christmas at The Lodge. We ate on three occasions at the close by Kings Arms (5 minutes walk) where the welcome and the food were both excellent. The Lodge is well placed for visits to Bath, Wells,Midsomer Norton etc. The Lodge has south facing bifold doors and I imagine it must be wonderful in the summer to open these and let the sunshine in.
