In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on the edge of the village of Beckley and above the River Rother, is this stylish, semi-detached holiday property. Situated down a quiet lane overlooking fields and adjoining the owners’ home, it resides in 3½ acres of grounds, surrounded by forestry and woodland, where a small orchard is set aside for the guests’ sole use. The Little Lodge is an ideal base from which to explore the cinque port town of Rye, famous for its 18th century smuggling activities. Mermaid Street, with its cobbled streets, timber framed inns and attractive Georgian houses, is well worth strolling along. Rye Bay is home to the well-known scallop festival in February. The beach can be reached at Winchelsea, and has associations with Spike Milligan and Camber Sands, as the name suggests there are miles of golden sand dunes. It is home to various film locations including ‘The Monuments Men’ with George Clooney, and ‘The Invisible Woman’ with Ralph Fiennes. Take a boat trip from Northiam and arrive at the fairytale Bodiam Castle, which is 4 miles away, or catch the Kent and East Sussex steam railway which travels to Tenterden, described by many as ’The Jewel of the Weald’. Cycling routes and excellent walking are close by. Horse riding stables can be found within a 15-minute drive away. Now in retirement, Darjeeling a famous Grand National champion horse resides at the property. Fishing is available nearby at Iden Wood Fishery (at cost, licence required). Treat yourself to the on-site medical beauty clinic, appointments by arrangement only (at cost). Beach 8½ miles. Shop 1 mile, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

We were so happy with our last holiday in The Little Lodge in East Sussex. We would recommend to anyone to go and spend wonderful time there. There are many reasons for that but the most important is the hospitality and amazing owner, Hazel who will make you so welcoming and relaxed in her beautiful cottage. The whole area is something you longing for to stay in if you live and a big city, surroundings are absolutely amazing and give you tranquillity you are looking for. The Little cottage is so tastefully decorated, brilliantly clean. the nearest slightly biggest place is beautiful Rye where you can feel and enjoy real England. Hazel, thanks so much for making our stay so wonderfulxxx

This was a last minute booking for the glorious Easter Bank Holiday weekend and was pleasantly surprised. It is a sweet little place in the middle of the countryside.....the dawn chorus was something else.....even woodpeckers! The host was very friendly and very helpful. Very nice, clean relaxing place........a dishwasher would of been helpful. Because it is in the countryside Rye and any beach is about a 20 minute drive. Overall we had a lovely time.

We had an excellent holiday - the owner Hazel and her dog George were both very friendly, and made us and our dog very welcome. We enjoyed the quiet location of the property. Rye is a very attractive town, and as English Heritage members we found Battle Abbey and Pevensey Castle well worth visiting.
