A mews-style house constructed to a high standard in 2017 as part of a boutique, purpose-built holiday complex, set in 50 acres of beautiful countryside just outside Newport, in the centre of the island.

Pegasus, named after the mythological winged horse, is one of 5 beautiful holiday homes that form The Gallops complex at the Island Riding Centre, which opened in 2017 and is ideally located in the centre of the island just minutes from many attractions and beaches. With a choice of holiday accommodation surrounded by countryside, it features a children’s play area, a variety of on site farm animals and unrivalled equestrian facilities making it a popular holiday destination for families, horse lovers and those on business.

Accessed off the pedestrian walkway surrounding the landscaped courtyard with low level threshold, the ground floor, which has wood flooring throughout, has been designed for those with additional accessibility needs and incorporates a kingsize bedroom and large wet room suitable for wheelchair users. Both rooms have an integral pull-cord alarm to alert accompanying guests on the first floor. The open plan living space is ideal for modern family living with a dining area and a kitchen with adjustable height hob and sink, side opening oven and low level microwave. A Freeview Smart TV is linked to the Wi-Fi providing a choice of media entertainment including Netflix. Patio doors lead to a sheltered courtyard garden facing south-west. The first floor has a master bedroom with kingsize bed, TV and en-suite shower room. In addition, there are two large twin rooms and a family bathroom.

With an ’eco-friendly’ ethos, the complex boasts solar panels, rainwater harvesting and a bacteria based waste water treatment facility. Consideration has been given to those with mobility impairment and construction was completed using the National Accessible Scheme (NAS) criteria. This property is comparable to M3I, typically suitable for those who depend on the use of a wheelchair and transfer unaided to and from the wheelchair in a seated position.

Parking for two cars is provided with a free electric charging point available to all guests. Further parking is in the adjacent main car park. A communal area with seating and sun loungers overlooking a small paddock housing some of the owner’s Shetland ponies and friendly resident sheep, Lambo and Cloudy, is available for guests, as is the enclosed children’s play area with a ‘mini-beach’, sand area and football goals. Cots, highchairs and barbecues are available on request, as are shower and toilet wheelchairs, toilet frame, riser and grab rails.

For horse riding enthusiasts, the riding school which is RDA kite-marked (riding for the disabled) offers lessons from qualified instructors and caters for riders of all ages and abilities including beginners, wheelchair users and those with limited mobility, guests receive 10% discount on all on site riding too! The equestrian centre boasts a 60m x 25m indoor wax-fibre arena with viewing areas, tack shop and cafe, a 60m x 40m outdoor arena with quality wax surface and superb drainage. For guests wishing to bring their own horses, there is a purpose-built livery yard with horse walker, sheltered wash down area, solarium and ample grazing (subject to ground conditions). On-site hacking is also available as are escorted off-site trail and beach rides.

Newport is less than 5 minutes’ drive whilst Ryde with its beaches is less than 15 minutes’ away. Both are accessible by bus (no 9) which stops outside the main entrance. Pubs, shops, takeaways, chemist and post office are located in Wootton, just over a mile away. The island is a paradise for walkers, country lovers, bird watchers and cyclists. There are local forests to enjoy walks and horse riding, and for cyclists there is a choice of challenging off road bridleways, peaceful byways and level purpose-made tracks along former railway lines. Beach 6 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

Our holiday home was fabulous and suited our needs perfectly. We were travelling with my elderly Mum who really appreciated the accessible room downstairs in Pegasus. The home was spacious and well equipped and to have three bathrooms suited our family needs perfectly. We did have one issue but it was speedily dealt with by the team. It was a.bonus to have the GGs restaurant on site and we really enjoyed the tapas night on the Sunday. The team also found quickly found me a riding lesson and accommodated my ability admirably! The holiday homes are very close to Fishbourne (10 minutes) and there are facilities eg Shopping, supermarkets etc in nearby Newport. ( no shops very close by - nearest is probably Tesco express on road to Fishbourne.) The homes are particularly suited to families with a lovely playground and animals to visit nearby. We would certainly consider using the accommodation again if we were visiting the area.
