An honest review. Booked The Bothy having read the description and previous reviews. Arrived, gathered our keys and was quickly shown around the property. First thing we both noticed was the Bothy was not 'close to local pub' but indeed attached. Also, the parking for the pub went right past the front door, main bedroom and living room which has very little privacy from people walking past. Therefore the curtains remained closed throughout our visit. For context the road was a step outside your door and the main the road in the village is ten yards from the front door. Property was single glazed which meant you could here everything going past the cottage. Main bedroom had plenty storage and hangers. However the bed was a threee-quarter bed and very uncomfortable. You could feel all the springs through the mattress. So we resorted to using a duvet from the spare room to add padding to the bed. Honestly. We both never had a full night's sleep. Constantly woke up. Disturbed every morning by traffic from the main road and pub car park. Plus, lack of privacy from road. Curtain remained closed throughout our stay. Spare room was never used. Living room was cosy and comfortable with basic TV. Wifi never worked when we were there and I struggled for a phone signal in the property.(probably due to the thickness of the stones etc) my wife however had a signal the whole time. On the wifi issue, we were told that WiFi is actually poor in the village and "its just something your going to have to live with" when we were shown around. We probably wouldn't have booked this if we had known. We would have liked to stream Netflix etc on the TV. I know. First world problems but the description is misleading to say the least. Kitchen was well equipped and had everything we needed. Albeit we never cooked in it. The bathroom has a shower only which was ok. We were told on arrival that the water needs to run for a little bit before the hot water comes through. However, on our first night I ran it for 10-20 minutes and no hot water came through. Tepid at best. We rang Lorna the following morning and she sorted it quickly however, there was a basic apology and no really sense of genuine sorrow. If this was me, I would make sure essentials were working before guests arrived. Facilities in the village are non-existant. The nearest shop is in the next village Dollar a 10 minute drive away. Personally feel the basics could have been provided, milk and bread, on the first night. It wouldn't be a stretch. In all honesty we would not have booked the Bothy had we known that there was no WiFi, the main car park for the pub goes past the main rooms and you constantly need to curtains closed and the cottage was attached to the pub. We will not be back nor would we recommend.
