This was our 7th year at the Hideaway. Hosts Phil and Gill could not be more welcoming. The cottage is ideally located for exploring the island, and has some wonderful walks from the front door. We have already booked again for next year.

The Hideaway was formally the servant quarters of the large period farmhouse. Now refurbished to a modern standard but retaining all its old world charm. Its spacious and the furnishings are comfortable. Very good dinning area. You share the large, mature garden with the owners. Very dog friendly and safe. Being about halfway between Shanklin and Ventnor, in a valley it's quiet and isolated. No easy walk to the nearest pub unless you are a proficient hiker. Expect to use your car to travel most anywhere. Being down a narrow and steep private lane we were glad we chose to use our smallest car, parking not an issue but I would not have enjoyed maneuvering our 4x4, so suits smaller vehicles. Sharing space with the owners you may well feel you are imposing and have a lack of privacy in equal measure, however the owners are very hospitable and approachable so not a major issue for us. The jacuzzi is a real bonus, did not expect it to be so useable, very relaxing after a long days hiking. Lots of uneven period flagstones, high steps and the staircase is steep so not a place for anyone unsteady on their legs. This is very true of the whole of the Isle of Wight, very hilly everywhere, its all either up or down. I personally found the main bed small and springy and was glad to get in my own bed on our return. Over all taking everything into consideration this was one of the best cottage stays we have had over the last ten years, if you have dogs, love a good hike to the pub, enjoy the isolation of the countryside this place is recommended.

To spend the end of the day sat in the hot tub, over looking such natural beauty, my teenage daughter thought she was in heaven; we would very much like to return one day soon, even our 3 dogs thoroughly enjoyed our daily adventures exploring Shalkin Cove.

The cottage was in a lovely location. The owners were lovely. Unfortunately I was cold.mthe weather was unseasonably cold and we just found that the cottage’s heating was not up to the task.

Lovely cottage with incredibly welcoming and friendly hosts. Home made cakes by Gill for your arrival is a wonderful treat, with enough to last us all week. Our 3 dogs were also very welcome and not just tolerated as with some cottages we have stayed in. There are lots of great walks in the area, and Philip suggested even more that we could do. I've already recommended this cottage to other dog owners I know as a great place to stay.

Gorgeous traditional cottage connected to the owners house. Use of the garden at the front with warm bubbly hot tub. Cows at the back of the garden, and lovely views. Well stocked cottage makes life easy on holiday. Spotlessly clean throughout. The owners were lovely, there with amazing cake and shortbread on arrival, happy to please and advise. Local info, games, books, tv, dvd and dvds, sky and wifi all there to make it like home. Highly recommend.
