This charming timber lodge is an idyllic rural retreat for a couple wanting to get out and about in the beautiful countryside of the Chilterns, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Hedgerow has been beautifully decorated and furnished to a very high standard. The decking provides seating to enjoy al fresco dining or a glass of wine overlooking the Ridgeway National Trail. In the shared garden, guests have complimentary use of the quirky summer house which has been converted from a classic vintage caravan. The Hedgerow is located on the Ridgeway Trail itself and walks can be enjoyed from this part of the Chiltern Hills. Within the hamlet of Wainhill, you can enjoy peace and quiet and get away from the everyday hustle and bustle.
The lodge is situated within the owner’s grounds on their small holding where your neighbours include rare breed Herdwick sheep, horses and wildlife. Depending on the livestock, the owner will give you access to fields and their orchard for you to enjoy. Walking and cycling in this area is very popular and the area has now become famous for the location of the filming of Midsomer Murders. Dine in one of the acclaimed nearby restaurants. The Chinnor and Princes Risborough Steam Railway runs only a few yards from the property and is situated at the bottom of the Chinnor Hill Nature Reserve, home to red kites and kestrels along with a number of hang gliders who take off from the hilltop.
Close by are the towns of Thame, Princes Risborough and Watlington. Half an hour’s drive will take you to the historic university city of Oxford which can also be reached by local public transport, or Bicester Shopping Village which has a wealth of high end outlet shops. There are several stately homes and National Trust properties in the area, including Chequers, the Prime Minister’s country estate, Great Missenden, with its high street of half-timbered houses and Georgian shops, the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre, the stunning home of the Rothschild’s Waddesdon Manor and the gardens of Stowe. Also in the nearby area are Blenheim Palace, the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill and Harry Potter Warner Bros. Studio. The large towns of High Wycombe, Aylesbury and Windsor are all within an hour’s drive. Shop and pub ½ mile, restaurant 2 miles.

A very warm welcome, beautiful surroundings, quite and relaxing. If you like walking plenty of foot paths, also long walks along The Ridgeway, would recommend to everybody.

We were hoping for a peaceful relaxing holiday in a lovely location and what we found at The Hedgerow far exceeded our expectations. The owners could not have been more friendly, welcoming, and generous hosts. We arrived to dress flowers and a freshly baked sponge cake, shared the owner’s beautiful garden and were encouraged to pick their ripe tomatoes whenever we liked. Out ten month old puppy could not have been made more welcome with his own bed, blanket, towel and treats provided. Katrina is extremely knowledgable about the best places to visit in the local area and we visited some fantastic places which we would not have found on our own. The walks from the door up to the Ridgeway were stunning. After two weeks of walking, good food chilling we felt ready to rejoin the world! All in all a clean/stylish/peaceful holiday home in a stunning location with the most friendly and generous hosts you could find. We hope we can return before long.
