Description

Equidistant of Winchester, Portsmouth and Chichester, this holiday property is a fantastic base to discover the county of Hampshire.

Situated in a truly stunning location, with a magnificent backdrop of rolling hills with sheep and cattle grazing, The Hayloft makes the perfect peaceful retreat for a couple wishing to explore the area. It is equidistant from Winchester, Portsmouth and Chichester, which are all about a 20-minute drive away. Skilfully converted to provide lovely holiday accommodation, this delightful light and spacious property has high ceilings and attractive beamwork. The breathtaking views can be savoured, particularly from the bedroom, which has plenty of windows to take full advantage of the vista. Set within beautiful rolling countryside and farmland, nestled in the hills of the South Downs within the grounds of a working farm, and the owners’ country farmhouse offers bed and breakfast for overflow guests.

There is direct access to miles of scenic walking and cycling routes in this wonderful part of Hampshire, (dogs to be kept on a lead in the immediate vicinity due to livestock) within The Meon Valley, near to West Meon with pubs serving fine fayre, and where Thomas Lord rests, founder of Lords cricket, as well as award-winning butchers and pub. East Meon is about 3 miles, with a pretty church and more good pubs. Petersfield market town is about 5 miles away, where there are plenty of restaurants and shops, as well as a train station with trains to London in approximately one hour. Other places to visit include Portsmouth with Spinnaker Tower, HMS Warrier and HMS Nelson’s Victory, waterside dining, extensive designer shopping, and ferry trips to the Isle of Wight, plus historic Winchester Cathedral and King Arthurs’ Round Table, Southampton with its extensive maritime history, the vast heathland walks/riding in The New Forest, historic Chichester with cathedral and festival theatre, beaches at the Witterings or Hayling Island, the Watercress steam train, Jane Austen’s House, Gilbert White’s house, Marwell Zoo and Birdworld to name a few. Also, Queen Elizabeth Country Park is on the other side of the valley and worth a visit. Shop, pub and restaurant 3 miles.

Open plan, spacious living/dining room with double sofa bed (for alternative sleeping only), kitchen area, beamed ceiling and wooden floor. Shower room with toilet. First floor: Double bedroom with kingsize bed, TV and en-suite bathroom with toilet.

The Hayloft is a great place to stay. There is plenty of room, everything you could possibly need is there. The bed is very comfortable and there is plenty of room. The living area is large and again very comfortable. Parking is not an issue, but you have to drive a mile or two to East Meon for a meal and several miles for supermarket. A small price to pay for what is a great place to stay, a bonus is the owner, Susan, who is most helpful.

Loved our stay at Hayloft, so quiet, so clean, couldn’t fault anything superb, excellent, 10/10 . I would definitely return to the Hayloft for a holiday. Just what the doctor ordered for a complete rest, ideal to visit Portsmouth, Mary Rose, Jane Austin house, Gilbert White House, Winchester history. Just wished we had booked for longer.

The Hayloft is just perfect. 10/10 cannot find any negatives whatsoever. We have stayed in many cottages over the years and this has to be one of the best. We will certainly return if in the area.

Fabulous location, very clean, peaceful and quiet. A few treats on arrival which was unexpected. Would like be to return in warmer weather to make use of the outside space.

Our purpose in choosing this cottage was two-fold: visiting a textile art exhibition in West Hampshire and visiting family in West Sussex. The location also gave us the opportunity to be in a rural area remote from busy traffic with simple walks along quiet lanes for daily exercise. The Hayloft was perfect, although the weather wasn't, but in January what can one expect? We thoroughly enjoyed the standard of accommodation it offered and loved relaxing here, doing nothing much, alternating with strenuous days of driving around two adjacent counties. We can't really comment on local amenities because they weren't a priority on this visit. But be in no doubt about the location; once the car could be left parked for the day it's a stunningly beautiful part of the country to either enjoy on foot or through a cottage window in a comfortable armchair!
