It is 4 miles from Kirkby Stephen, a traditional market town with a variety of shops, cafés, restaurants and pubs. There are plenty of visitor attractions and leisure facilities nearby, including farmers markets, swimming pools, golf courses, waterfalls, Pendragon Castle of Arthurian Legend, the Settle-Carlisle Railway and Wainwright’s Coast to Coast walk. A bridleway leads from the property to Crosby Garrett Fell, providing excellent walking country with breathtaking views of the Pennines and Howgills. Smardale Nature Reserve is just over a mile away. Within a 40-minute drive, visitors can explore Ullswater and the Eastern Lakes, Swaledale, Wensleydale and the lesser known Teesdale, along with the popular towns of Keswick, Kendal, Barnard Castle and Hawes. Tan Hill, the highest pub in England is a short, pretty drive away. Shop, pub and restaurant 4 miles.

The cottage is lovely and arrived to selection of goodies. It is some way from amenities and you go along small lanes to get to it but this is exactly what we wanted. Fabulous cycling and walking from the door and wonderful scenery. If you want escapism this is the place.

My husband and I have just returned from a truly lovely relaxing break and would most definitely recommend this stay to anyone. The accommodation was perfect and we couldn’t believe how quickly it warmed up and how cosy it felt. The hosts were on hand if you needed them but otherwise they gave you complete privacy. Local co op about 4 miles away in Kirkby Stephen village which amongst other shops has a bakery and confectioners etc. Would stay there again.

We had a fabulous stay at The Hayloft. It was very cosy and warm during our snowy January stay. It was lovely to come home to the warmth of a wood burner after spending the day walking in the nearby fells and hills. Linda and John were there to meet us when we first arrived and showed us around the property and then left us to enjoy our stay. The property had everything anyone could want plus there were some delightful extras... wine, homemade cake and chocolates. We will definitely return sometime in the future.
