The cottage was no as advertised. It stated it had a washing machine and it didn't. This has been removed. The website also advertised it as having a large garden and pond which is untrue as the photos of the garden are part of the owners garden which you do not have unlimited access to. You have to ask for permission to use the garden. The cottage was also full of spiders, I appreciate that there will be spiders but I would expect them to be removed before we arrive. The cottage it's self was fine. A better quality fan would be good as it becomes extremely hot in there. I believe the way this cottage is being advertised needs to be changed. I do give credit to Polly and Marc when the kettle blew up they were quick to make amends for this.

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your review. It has greatly saddened us to hear that you were not happy with The Goat House. We understand your frustration that the washing machine was no longer in situ, but as discussed with you during your stay we had recently renovated and installed a new Howdens kitchen with lovely oak worktops, butler sink, integrated fridge and fitted cupboards, and in order to let our guests have the maximum storage space for food and belongings we removed the washing machine. We apologised to you at the time and offered to wash your laundry, which we did and we returned your folded, dried laundry to your door by 8am the following morning at no extra charge. We now offer a laundry service on request if guests need it. We also lent your partner our tools so he could fix his car speakers - we always try to help our guests as much as we can, whatever the situation. And after the slightly peculiar kettle exploding scenario, we immediately replaced it at no inconvenience to you. With regards to the cleanliness we are stunned that you were unhappy as we cleaned the cottage thoroughly the morning of your arrival. If you can possibly read our other reviews we have always maintained very high cleaning standards (and high scores too) and as previous guests have stated 'The Goat House is a really lovely, cosy place. it is very clean and comfortable.' . We are very confused by your statement. In the description it clearly states that 'Guests may have full access to the adjacent owners’ 3 acres of land, which include a ¾ of an acre private lake (by prior agreement), making it a beautiful place to dine al fresco and take in the breathtaking surroundings' We do have a large 3 acre garden with a beautiful lake which we are happy to share with our guests, it is full of wildlife and it is a lovely place to wander and relax in. However, we do have 2 young children and our own pets and we request that guests let us know if they would like to use the garden. On this occasion you informed us that your dog wasn’t particularly socialised with other animals or people, hence our concern with our own dogs and children. Guests are most welcome to come in and enjoy the garden but out of respect we do like to know when you are likely to be using it. The weather has been unbelievably warm over the last month and we do believe you booked The Goat House in the warmest week in the past 3 years! We wish you had asked or mentioned it to us that you were very hot and we would have tried to assist you as much as we could. However you did not say to us that you required more fans otherwise we would have obtained more for you. Also you left a very nice thank you note which slightly contradicts your review along with positive comments in our Visitors book.

Had an amazing weekend in the rural romantic hideaway. Not the biggest but has everything that is needed for 2. Hosts were very friendly and nothing was to much trouble although were given privacy too. Due to rural location no shops in walking distance however does have a wood-side cafe 40 mins walk away.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thanks for your lovely review. It was great to finally meet you both after rearranging your booking due to averse weather conditions - snow in Cornwall is nearly unheard of. We would love to welcome you back to The Goat House, please come and stay any time.

Very nice place, had a relaxing Xmas with the wife in beautiful surroundings. The owners where very helpful before arriving, and even went as far as decorating the cottage for Xmas. And also left my wife and myself a Cornish Cream Tea in the fridge to enjoy on our first day there.

The Goat House is a really lovely , cosy place. it is very clean and comfortable. Polly the owner is very helpful and friendly. She left a lovely cream tea in the fridge on our arrival. The surroundings are beautiful however the cottage is just off to the side of a country road which wasn't a busy road but we did get cars and walkers going past our window. The garden shown in pictures is across the road so not attached to the cottage. the only reason we would not stay again is because I am disabled in a wheelchair and it is not suitable for disabled despite being told by the agent that it was suitable. This was by no means the owners fault and she did express her concerns when I phoned about the key collection but it was to late then to do anything about it so we managed the best we could. Internet connection was excellent but mobile phone connection for us was nil.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner- Thanks for your words, we really appreciate the time you have taken to review The Goat House. We are very happy to share our 5 acre garden with guests and try to be as accommodating as possible. There is a small road outside the property which is part of Cardinham Woods, a very popular wood suitable for horse-riders, mountain bikers, walkers, hikers, pushchairs etc as it stretches over 650 acres and even has a play area and cafe. The Goat House is situated on a trail of Cardinham Woods, so yes, you do get the occasional passer by, but everyone always says a cheery hello. One benefit of The Goat House is the very close proximity of Cardinham Woods and the appeal that you're right there. We are planning to section off a part of our garden so on a lovely sunny evening guests can enjoy the view, have a barbecue, etc. With regards to wheelchair suitability we did discuss it before you arrived but as the cottage is on one-level, it was recommended for disabled access when booked with Cottages.com. We are sorry to hear you would not return but fully understand your reasons.

We have been twice to the Goathouse and have thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The cottage is in an idyllic peaceful valley with access (by arrangement) to the owner's beautiful area of lawn, lake and woodland. The owners are perfect hosts, with the lovely touch of a cream tea waiting in the fridge on arrival. We found the cottage very well furnished with everything we needed. The lane outside turns into a woodland track, excellent for biking and walking in Cardinham Woods, and the surrounding countryside is full of footpaths and moorland. It is a hidden gem.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner:- Thank you Judith for your kind review. We are working so hard to ensure every guest has everything they could possibly need and we consider guests at The Goat House as family. Please come back and stay anytime, we look forward to seeing you again and catching up with your news.
