Description

In a peaceful and secluded valley with only sheep and cattle, this detached family farmhouse has wonderful views over open countryside.

Situated on the 6000-acre Lincluden Estate, these three detached properties are presented to the highest standards. They are located in remote settings on the edge of the moors with delightful woodland walks and hillside trails up into forests. It is an area hugely popular with walkers and cyclists of all abilities, and the Dalbeattie 7 Stanes cycling trail is also close by. There are many sandy beaches and forest trails to explore and many lovely gardens nearby as well for those seeking a slower pace of recreation.
The surrounding area offers a tremendous range of activities for the visitor. Golf courses, sailing, horse riding, cycling and walking are all available close by, and there are tennis courts and swimming-pools in nearby Kirkcudbright, Castle Douglas and Dumfries. Fishing is available by arrangement at Glen Kiln Loch with the first day free of charge (any days after are chargeable at £8 per adult and £4 per child/OAP). Many quaint villages await exploration including the coastal villages of the Isle of Whithorn, Port William (known as the Machars of Galloway and presented with the Pride of Galloway award) and the popular village of Portpatrick with stunning views over the North Channel to the Irish coast. A trip to Ireland from Stranraer also makes for a good day out. Dumfries, with shops, restaurants, museums and theatre, lies 10 miles away, while Castle Douglas, Scotland’s Food Town (8 miles), is a traditional market town with shops specialising in local produce. There are also many beautiful beaches for holidaymakers to enjoy. Shop 5 miles, pub 5½ miles.

    A wonderful house with excellent furnishings. Comfortable and spacious. I'm always apprehensive when I book somewhere new. This time I need not have worried. It was lovely. We could quite happily have stayed for a lot longer. Cannot wait to return.

    The only negative was crockery/ cutlery could have been cleaner. We assumed that was left to guests, because house is too big for one woman to clean. Maybe a team of cleaners? Otherwise everything was perfect.

    Fabulous place. Our 3rd stay this time. Very peaceful, quiet & a stunning place in which we feel very at home. Please let us know if it is ever up for sale!

    This house is in a beautiful location next to a working farm. The house itself is massive and the room sizes were great. The beds and pillows are comfy and relaxing. However, the cleanliness in the kitchen is not to a high standard. Dirty chairs, cookware, first aid plaster stuck inside fridge, dirty kitchen unit cupboards (inside), greasy aga and dirty microwave. The microwave was the worst. Food was encrusted on the plate and inside it. There was a distinct wet dog smell in the main living room and stained carpets from spillages. The housekeeper was informed of our findings and offered to clean but this should have been done prior to our arrival especially as there appeared (on the website) no bookings prior to our arrival. The internet service is poor. We spent 2 weeks there with very little internet, in fact, about 4 days worth is all we could get. I had one device on a time to alleviate the demand on the service but this made no difference. It took one hour to load a page. These comments about the internet and cleanliness had been noted in the visitors' book but nothing appears to have been done about it. I noted a GOLD award (2009 & 2010) on the wall but I would disagree with that award in 2018. No welcome pack and no information pack about nearby hospitals, etc. There was a telephone number to contact the housekeeper on the noticeboard in the kitchen. Whilst she came down to bring lightbulbs and showed us the heating and tell us about the bin collection days. We were informed she had mentioned to the owners that the guttering needing replacing and maybe that's the reason for the smell. We paid over £2,000 for our 2 weeks stay and I don't feel it was value for money.
