Welcome to The Dairy, a wonderful haven to relax in. Usefully all on one level this cottage, which is an annex to the owner’s home, offers comfortable accommodation in fabulous surroundings. The living room with picture windows looks out onto the fields afar and if you’re lucky you will get to see the resident kestrels which nest here to have their young. The Dairy is also very well-equipped for pet owners, with an enclosed garden, doggy extras and even an on-site doggy day care and grooming facility (by arrangement with owner).
Surrounded by beautiful countryside, the village of Brackenfield is close to Ogston Reservoir, a haven for birdwatchers and home of the Ogston Bird Club. Built by damming the River Amber in 1958, the reservoir is surrounded by woodlands, fields, scrub and grasslands, and even an orchard! When the water level drops in late summer and autumn, the reservoir attracts large numbers of wading birds but, in winter, Ogston is the best site nationally to watch rare species of gull - 14 different species have been recorded here. A chapel of ease was built at Brackenfield around 1500 but now lies in ruins, hidden by trees. A pilgrimage from the village to this chapel is held each year on Trinity Sunday. A new church was built in 1857 and is the site of one of Brackenfield’s well dressings.
The Peak District National Park and Derbyshire is of course well-known for its natural beauty, and no visit here is complete without spending some time in the great outdoors. For walkers of all abilities, there are plenty of trails and walking routes to explore directly from your doorstep, while those who prefer to cycle are also in for a treat. Why not enjoy a great day out with a visit to the stunning Chatsworth House located near Bakewell in the Peak District. Chatsworth is steeped in history and this beautiful house and gardens are open to the public to explore.
Nearby Matlock is a popular Peak District town, together with its neighbour, Matlock Bath, which have been attracting visitors to the area since the late 17th century when the original spa was developed. Set in the stunning wooded gorge of the River Derwent, Matlocks offer a range of shops, pubs and restaurants to enjoy, as well as a host of attractions including Gulliver’s Kingdom and the Peak District Mining Museum. Magnificent views down the gorge can be enjoyed from the cable car which takes visitors up to the Heights of Abraham – a great place for all the family with its showcaves, nature trail, water gardens and owl maze. South of the town is the start of the High Peak Cycle Trail, whilst a short drive away is the National Tramway Museum at Crich. To the north is the market town of Bakewell and the famous Haddon Hall. The Dairy really is in the ideal location to enjoy all this wonderful area has to offer all year round. Shop 4 miles, pub and restaurant ¾ mile.

An absolute little gem of a property located in a highly picturesque area of the Derbyshire peak district This property is furnished to a very high standard and the garden area is wonderful. I highly recommend The Dairy if you are looking to stay in a really comfortable and well equipped property. The owner Anne is a very pleasant person indeed and her Irish Wolfhound, Aston is a delightful dog and very friendly.

The BEST holiday cottage/accommodation that we have stayed in catering for dogs. Such a warm welcome from Ann and Aston (The friendly Irish wolf hound). Outstanding accommodation with a properly secure garden and paddock for him to explore and have fun. I would strongly recommend this holiday venue. We will be back! The facilities in The Dairy were to a very high standard and well maintained. Recommend the local Fish and Chips!! A very relaxing and memorable week. Thank you Ann.

Absolutely fabulous, we made a wonderful decision when we booked the Dairy. Fantastic location, enviable scenery, great pubs nearby serving fabulous food and a great fish and chip shop just up the road. Anne, the owner was so accommodating and Aston, you’ve got to meet him to believe him, was a very friendly, big as a pony Irish Wolf hound. The property was lovely, fab views, clean and the bed was amazing. We can’t recommend this property enough. Book it, you won’t regret it.

The cottage is delightful and the owner is very friendly and helpful. The weather was terrible all week but we were snug and cosy in the cottage. The views are lovely and we would love to return when the weather is better so that we can sit outside to enjoy them. The cottage is quietly located in the countryside but not too far from the amenities of Matlock.
