We had an amazing two week stay at the Croft House. It was clean, comfortable, spacious. With lots of nice touches like bookshelves full of books, an abundance of DVDS and lots of board games for when the weather got the better of us! I would definitely stay again and would highly recommend it as a place to spend a couple of weeks on Skye.

A lovely comfortable cottage with great views. There was everything we needed and 2 televisions so avoided clash with royal wedding and FA cup final! Spotlessly clean. Thank you for a lovely weekend.

    - cold heating day 1 - small amount of kindling to start a fire - newly painted rooms left us with affected eyes and skin rashes - no washing machine - dead rabbit in back garden was off putting - down stairs bathroom locked did not work and locked one of us in for 10 Mins - details of local contact were incorrect. When we did have the right contact she shouted at us that we should not have her number - not enough plates or bowls - dining room fire place not working - we did not make comments in the guest book as we believe our complaints are more serious and will seek compensation via our lawyer for compensation due to toxic paint fumes and we had to cut our holiday short by 4 days due to complaints.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We are astounded and perplexed by this review. In particular we take great exception to the comments about the paint. If it was such a major issue (to the extent that you apparently curtailed your stay) then we fail to understand why you chose not to contact us or the Agency when you were at the house. It is also very odd, given the apparent seriousness with which you treat it, that you take over 3 weeks from your scheduled departure date to raise the issue at all and then to raise it only on Reevoo. For your information, both living rooms and hall and stairway were repainted just before Christmas. We ourselves stayed in the house for a week in February and there was no “toxic” smell. There were also other guests in the house the week before you arrived. They did not raise any issues. As for the issue of “toxic”, you should be well aware that such paint is not sold. The paints used were Dulux low odour paints. One has to question your motives for raising this at all. As regards the other comments: We just do not understand the comment about plates and bowls. There are a minimum of eight plates (two sizes) cereal bowls and pasta bowls and in most cases several more (subject to breakages) in the house, sufficient to serve the maximum four guests the house accommodates and enable them to run the dishwasher when full without running out. With only two advised guests in your party the comment is all the more surprising. Crockery is stored either in the kitchen cupboard or the sideboard in the dining room. Perhaps you did not look in both? There was an advisory note fastened to the washing machine to say it was not working. This was brought to our attention on 21 February by our caretaker who also advised that it was not repairable and we immediately ordered a new one from Currys. As you will appreciate, Skye is very remote and Currys only provide one delivery a week from their base in Inverness, a three hour drive away. Delivery was scheduled for 1 March, i.e. two days before your arrival but, because of the weather conditions referred to above they were unable to get out of Inverness. These circumstances were obviously beyond our control. A new washing machine has now been installed. The week before you were there and indeed when you arrived there had been unseasonably cold weather. The heating is set to come on twice a day even when unoccupied to keep the chill off but it obviously did not do this to your satisfaction, for which we apologise. What a “small amount of kindling” is, is obviously subjective but we always leave a large basket with logs and kindling in and a full scuttle of coal. This is normally sufficient for two or three days. I will ask the caretaker to review the proportion of logs to kindling provided in future. The house has a large back garden, and is in the middle of a remote and extensive rural area. Much of the garden is left to grow wild. Rabbits are frequently seen and the occasional dead rabbit would not be surprising, as would not dead birds or even the occasional dead sheep. That’s the countryside for you, but if you were really offended and had contacted us then our local handyman could have removed it for you. The handyman, if we had been advised, could also have come over to repair the bathroom lock. Caretaker responsibilities for the house changed on 1 February. You should have been advised of this by the Agency and we apologise on their behalf if you did not receive the updated information. There is no fireplace in the dining room. There is a wood burner but this is not advertised in the property details. It is clearly marked as not being in use as it is not offered for Guests’ use. As you note there is an open fire in the living room which many guests have enjoyed. Therefore to claim it doesn’t work is misleading.
