Description

Relax in the grounds or choose one of the footpaths on the doorstep and explore the Ashdown Forest area.

Nestling on the south side of the Ashdown Forest, on the edge of the hamlet of Piltdown, this semi-detached cottage lies within the owner’s 10-acre grounds and provides ideal holiday accommodation for a romantic break. Cyclists, golfers and walkers are well-catered for, with many footpaths that criss-cross the owner’s land. Nearby golf courses include Piltdown, Royal Ashdown in Forest Row and the East Sussex National at Little Horsted. Take a picnic and enjoy the opera at Glyndebourne, visit the glorious Sheffield Park Gardens and Wakehurst Place. See Charleston Farmhouse, the home of Vanessa Bell and the Bloomsbury set, and enjoy their literary festival during May.
A 30-minute drive takes you to the beautiful South Downs National Park, and Brighton with its cosmopolitan bohemia, traditional seaside vibe and an opportunity to venture aboard the British Airways i360, the worlds tallest moving observation tower from which you may be able to spot the Isle of Wight. The more genteel Eastbourne boasts a pier and a marina from where a boat trip gives a different perspective to viewing the white cliffs and iconic Beachy Head. Plumpton races and The Bluebell Steam Railway also make for a great day out. Fishing is available at Tanyard Fishery (at cost, licence required). Beach 22 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1¾ miles.

Very friendly hosts, made us feel very welcome and went the extra bit to accommodate our motorcycle. The cottage was as described perhaps even better than advertised. We could not fault the location or accommodation. Bit of a walk to the local pub 1.5 miles, but worth the effort.

Unfortunately this property is located on the owner's drive, so there is limited privacy, particularly if you want to sit outside. If you sit outside you are in full view of the owner's house which is not relaxing. Inside, the property is clean, tidy and has all the mod cons you might want but it lacks enough windows. I would also say it is relatively expensive for what it is.
