In the centre of the small market town of Charlbury and tucked away within the friendly owner’s grounds, who have two friendly dogs who will give you the warmest welcomes, the cottage is only 200 yards from one the town’s many welcoming pubs. With spacious living areas and a cosy, double-sided wood burner warming the whole ground floor, the owner has thought of everything to make your stay perfect. Should guests have an occasion to celebrate during their stay, the owner is more than happy to help with the planning of a suprise, such as balloons, flowers and a cake (at cost, by direct prior arrangement with the owner).

Nestling in the Evenlode Valley, Charlbury is a vibrant yet picturesque, unspoilt Oxfordshire town which grew from a small clearing in the Wychwood Forest to a prosperous market town. There’s always something going on, including an annual beer festival, live music in the local pubs, guided walks, cricket matches, Morris dancing teams and summer festivals including the Wilderness Festival at Cornbury Park, which falls on the first weekend in August from Thursday to Sunday. This is also an ideal location for walking and cycling, with the Oxfordshire Way encircling the town.

The charming Brunel railway station, less than ½ mile from The Cottage at Long Meadow, has direct trains to Oxford and London. Only 15 miles away is the university city of Oxford, and other historic towns worth visiting include Woodstock, Burford and Chipping Norton. A little further afield is Stow-on-the-Wold, Bicester, famous for its shopping village, and Regency Cheltenham, where the annual Cheltenham Festival takes place. Shop ¼ mile, pub and restaurant 200 yards.

Brilliant place. We have stayed in many cottages over the years, but this was one of the best. Well equipped with a generous welcome pack. Beautiful surroundings, both the immediate grounds and the local area. Local pubs aplenty with good food and beer, including in Charlbury itself. The cottage had a very luxurious feel, and was very conducive to some much needed R&R. The icing on the cake was that nature treated us to some gorgeous weather as well - which did mean we didn't try out the log burner - we'll have to go back another time!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; I am so pleased you had down time at The Cottage... a huge thank you for your review, it means a lot.

This cottage is a real gem - cosy, pretty and so, so peaceful! The owner's are really welcoming and helpful and we couldn't fault anything about this lovely place. The village is beautiful and well placed for trips into Oxford or further into the Cotswolds. Several pubs with good food were within walking distance and there is a shop/post office for provisions. We are already planning a return visit!

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for booking The Cottage and a huge thank you for your Reevoo.

This cottage was perfect for us visiting the Cotswolds. Very comfortable because much thought had gone into recently making it an attractive rental property with ambience and convenience in mind. It had everything and more that we needed. Best cottage by far of the three that we have stayed in during our holiday in England.

Response on behalf of the owner; A huge thank you for your review, its really appreciated... have a good winter.

We had an amazing time at long meadow cottage and felt very refreshed and recharged after a few days away. The weather wasn’t the best but it didn’t spoil our break and we loved every minute. Thank you Sue for making our stay magical and for the very generous welcome pack.

Great cottage! Beautiful to look at, very well equipped and very comfy, particularly the bed. Literally a 1-minute walk to a decent pub with good food, one further minute to a CAMRA pub and a gastropub. There's a small co-op supermarket which stays open late. Sadly no coffee shops, but in such a small village I shouldn't have been surprised. The temp on the underfloor heating is locked. It was too hot for us, so the owner kindly reduced it, then we got cold - our own fault! 😆 There is a wood burning stove which is lively, but not a lot of heat from it. Tons of hot water and fab pressure in the shower. A good base for exploring. We had a lovely week here and would definitely try to stay again if we go back to that area. And the owner left us a load of christmas edible goodies, which was a lovely surprise! They also have very cute dogs, which they took pains to keep from us in case we were disturbed, although I'd have played with them all day.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Oh no if only I knew, the dogs love to be played with... Thank you for your review and have a very happy 2019.

Just returned from a lovely week at Long Meadow cottage. It isn’t very often we feel this way, but we honestly couldn’t fault a thing. Personal highlights for us included the underfloor heating (walking on a warm stone floor with bare feet is a dream!), the log burner & the huuuge bed! Charlbury is a pretty little village with some wonderful pubs, all within a few minutes walk of your cottage. The Bull was our personal favourite with its roaring fire, great food & delicious red wine (try the Sicilian red). We will definitely return in the future. Thank you for such a fab stay!

Nice cosy cottage in a lovely location. Close to Oxford, Bicester Village for shopping and the scenic surrounding area of the Cotswolds. Bourton On The Water is a must. Cottage is well equipped with all the required necessities. Big King sized bed, cozy log burner and a great shower. The welcome pack was much appreciated. Nothing much to complain about although we didn't find the sofa in the lounge particularly comfortable and you should note that there is no other heating downstairs bar the log burner and if you require more logs you will be charged for them, albeit only a minimal amount. Personally I thought that was odd considering you have paid for a stay in a cottage and heating should be part of that contract. As I said you need the additional logs as there is no other method of heating downstairs. Minor quibbles but it does detract my overall score a little.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; All reviews are truly appreciated... However, I would like to point out that there is underfloor heating on the ground floor, which is on consistently during the day; this is the kitchen area leading into the sitting room, which has the double-sided wood burning stove. The stove is laid for each guest and logs are left to burn for 2 nights, remembering that a wood burner likes a slow burn, which makes the heat more consistent. I am sorry that your stay was not as cosy and comfortable as you would have liked but very pleased there were some aspects that you did.
