This cottage adjoins a 17th-century farmhouse on a traditional Lakeland working hill farm, once owned by Beatrix Potter, now owned by the National Trust. It enjoys a very quiet and secluded position, in a superb setting surrounded by rocky bracken-covered hills and high fells, in the heart of Lakeland. The views from all windows are across the magnificent Langdale Valley to the surrounding woods and mountains. Enjoy the tranquil splendour of this idyllic setting in a TV free cottage to enable you to relax in peace of a true away from it all holiday. Shop 4 miles, pub 2 miles by road or 11/2 mile walk.

    Beautiful place to stay on a working sheep farm. At the end of a quiet lane with stunning mountain views and zero traffic noise. Red deer frequently visible from the house. Excellent walking in every direction, includung great highland walks in fair weather and lowland walks when the mountain tops are in cloud. Hosts were friendly and helpful and gave great walking tips. Wood burning stove set ready to light was a bonus. Short drive to Coniston.

    Its a short drive from Ambleside to get to the cottage and to reach it you have to negotiate a very narrow country lane. Stop next to the gate to unload your luggage and then you can park next to the park entrance a little further on (just past the farmhouse). The cottage is in a superb location on National Trust land and has amazing views from most windows and the kitchen doorway. Its deceptively big as at first the living room / dining area seems a bit small. But the bathroom and upstairs bedroom are quite spacious. It has all the amenities you need including a log fire. Although it doesn't have a tv or wifi signal which for us was a major plus if you want to get away from it all. The accommodation runs on a meter so be sure to bring a supply of £1 coins and don't bring too many items for the fridge as its a standard size. The surrounding area is very quiet and tranquil. You will only hear the sounds of sheep and birds and nothing else. The only vehicle sound was the tractor or the royal mail van. Its also a great place to start off from for a variety of local walks. The owners are very helpful and can point you in the right direction if you need some guidance. Although we didn't see them after the first day which again adds to the feeling of being completely away from all distractions. All in all an amazing time and and an amazing property. Would highly recommend.

    Idyllic position,perfe t peace,birds and sheep! Our hosts were very helpful with advice on local places to visit. Wrynose pass and Hardknock pass are spectacular,the steam gondola on Coniston Water very relaxing.

    This is our favourite holiday cottage and the 6th time we have been here, we have already booked for a fortnight again next June.

    Excellent. The cottage seems to be in the middle of nowhere yet is close to good walks and local tourist amenities. The cottage itself is simple but comfortable; the views from the windows are superb. Although in the middle of the lambing season, the owners were happy to talk about what they were doing and to give advice on walks etc.
