As the name suggests, The Coastal Cottage is located less than a 5-minute walk from the beach and the Suffolk Heritage Coast.

The Coastal Cottage is a delightful, ex-coastguard terraced cottage that has been thoughtfully renovated and is tucked away in a quiet location in the beautiful village of Kessingland. With a large open plan kitchen/dining room and cosy living room, it has patio doors leading to the sun trap patio and lawned garden, ideal for families and couples. The property is situated between Lowestoft and Southwold on the Suffolk Heritage Coastline and is only a short walk away from the beach. This award-winning 27-mile stretch of coastline is perfect for summer and winter holidays alike. The Suffolk Coast is ideal for walking, fishing, photography, nature and culture. Within the quiet coastal village of Kessingland you will find the fantastic Africa Alive! (African animal adventure park). Great base from which to explore the Suffolk coastline. Pub, takeaway (great fish n chips) and pub nearby. Great walking. Southwold 15 mins for ships and fab delicatessens.

A very warm and comfortable cottage in a very quiet spot, literally a couple of minutes from a very dog friendly beach. Would definitely stay here again.

We were a couple with 2 small dogs who stayed for a week in November. The cottage was cosy, comfortable and warm and the garden was fully enclosed for the dogs. The situation was great for walks by the sea and very close to both Southwold and Lowestoft. Both the pubs in the village served very good food although we didn't try The Waterfront restaurant but it did look very nice. The cottage was fine for two adults and possibly two children but I think it would be slightly cramped for 4 adults. However, we would definitely book again.

The cottage itself has been beautifully refurbished. It looks classy and contemporary with fresh, neutral colours throughout. The windows are all double glazed and the heating works well so the cottage felt very warm and comfortable. The bathroom had a powerful shower and a decent amount of space too. We've been in cottage bathrooms that were smaller and less comfortable. The cottage is situated very conveniently for the beach - it's only two minutes away. So we very much enjoyed a walk along the beach every day. The main bedroom bed was wider than a standard double (perhaps a queen-size but not a king?) and comfortable. The lounge and kitchen are cosy (i.e. nicely designed but not massively spacious). We found that it was perfect for us as there were only two of us. However, I suspect that both the lounge and kitchen table would be a little squashed (but manageable) if there were four of you. I have three niggles. One was about the supplies that were (or weren't) provided. We've stayed at eight other cottages with this cottages website in just over a year. And every single one of them provided enough dishwasher tablets for the entire stay. The Coastal Cottage only provided 2 dishwasher tablets for our 4-night stay. Along similar lines, every other cottage we've been in had kitchen foil (but not this cottage). The Coastal Cottage also provided us with only one toilet roll - whereas every other cottage provided a couple of spares. Other cottages have always provided a cheap bottle of handwash in the bathroom, but not this one. I mean, a bottle of Aldi handwash costs 55 pence - I'm not saying it has to be a top-of-the-range product. The Coastal Cottage is rated as a Grade 4 property on cottages dot com, but even the two Grade 3 properties we have stayed at within the last 18 months provided us with these small things. I have a suggestion for the owner: either provide these small things (that every other cottage we've stayed in has had) OR be clear in your response to this email that you will NOT be providing these things so that visitors can come suitably equipped. Either option is fine, so long as you manage people's expectations. We also had problems with the internet service. After 24 hours of switching the router off and on many, many times, I phoned the owner. She was very pleasant and suggested a different wifi connection and password. Unfortunately, this one didn't work terribly well either. I didn't want to be on the phone sorting these sorts of things out so gave up. But it was somewhat limiting when I wanted to check work emails, watch Netflix and so on. The final difficulty we had was with the washing machine. I carefully read the manufacturer's booklet for the washing machine and put a small load of laundry on the "Mini 30" wash, which was supposed to last 29 minutes. It actually lasted around 90 minutes! So be careful to leave much, much more time if you have to use the washing machine at all. However, both the relative lack of supplies and perhaps a problem with the washing machine timer were minor niggles. The lack of reliable internet was more irksome but not too problematic for us. And overall we had a lovely time.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your comments and score of 9, so glad you found the cottage warm, comfortable and well located for the beach. In response to your other comments, it is a self-catering cottage but we like to provide a starter pack of some essentials in case guests have forgotten something important and prevent them having to go immediately to the shops. Sorry there was no hand wash, this is usually left in the bathroom but had been overlooked. Lastly, we appreciate how important Wi-Fi is, so we have changed suppliers and will have a brand new hub installed shortly; in the meantime, Wi-Fi is available. Thank you again for your comments and so glad you enjoyed your stay.

Me and my boys loved it. A stones throw from the beach meant no dog lead necessary . All very good

Our 2nd visit to the cottage, we had the same experience again of long walks & relaxation. We walked to Pakefield on the Saturday & Southwold on Sunday. The local amenities are still the same, friendly pub, excellent fish & chip shop & supermarket 20 minutes walk. The cottage is cosy & perfect for us & the dog, we hope to return for another stay

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Coastal Cottage, tucked away in a quiet location away from the road. The enclosed garden and short walk to the beach were perfect for our dog. Just a few minutes walk away is the Sailors Home pub which is dog friendly and served lovely meals (although food in the evening was only served between 6 - 8pm so does get busy then). Plenty of walks in the area and nearby is a tea room and fish & chip shop, although we didn't visit them. The cottage is beautifully decorated and it was nice to read a bit of history about the cottages. We will happily stay there again.
