This cottage has extremely steep stairs. Although the area is dog friendly the property is not. On arrival the first thing you are met with is that dogs are not allowed upstairs. You’d need to be Sherpa Tensing to get them up there. It’s like going up a loft ladder. If like us your dogs are not used to being away from you at night you’ll need to do what we did and camp out downstairs using a settee each as a bed. Not ideal for us or anyone elderly. Also the blurb says you have access to grounds. Only if it’s on a lead! Not what we anticipated at all. The court yard is full of moss and debris so you are constantly cleaning up anything the dogs bring in on their paws. The owners are friendly though. My fault I’ll do more research next time.

Response on behalf of the owner; I am naturally very disappointed to have received this score. I agree with the first comment the cottage has steep stairs .......clearly stated and photographed on the listing. Dogs are not allowed upstairs, we don’t allow dogs upstairs and this is stated in’s booking conditions and applies to all their properties. It’s extremely unfair on future guests if dogs are sharing beds upstairs with humans especially as we cater for non-dog owners too. Access to the grounds and beautiful countryside however, yes dogs on leads in the grounds which is common sense, as there are horses nearby and a wealth of wildlife such as pheasants, partridges, deer, rabbits etc. and our own well controlled dogs and cats. All of our guests in the past respect the wildlife and enjoy it and we prefer to keep it that way. As for the courtyard it’s an enclosed area for dogs and adults we are constantly picking up leaves etc., from the nearby trees, it is early autumn. Unfortunately upon departure I was disappointed that the cottage was found to have been left in an unsatisfactory condition which therefore required extra cleaning.

Idyllic, rural surroundings with lovely small + very popular smokehouse cafe within easy walking distance. Fantastic doggy pubs and historic attractions within driving distance. Very friendly owners with invaluable advice on local attractions and how to find them. Coach House set in extensive grounds leading to beautiful rural walks along fields towards the coats and ferry at Old Felixtow. Excellent location for our energetic Border Collie - he has been very relaxed and enjoyed himself enormously - and so have we.

Very comfortable cottage in an idyllic location. Owners were very welcoming and had a wealth of local knowledge which was a great help planning our days out. The enclosed patio area was especially good and safe for my dog. Only down side is there is no local shop/pub so you have to drive out for food and essentials, but that is no reflection on the cottage. You just have to be organised on your days out and remember to shop before you return. I would highly recommend The Coach House and can not wait to book our next stay.
