Gorgeous chapel conversion with beautiful views, perfectly placed for visiting the coast and the western Lakes.

This beautiful stone chapel with an original dove tower, once owned by John Myers, cousin of William Wordsworth, has been restored keeping its character with original oak beams, exposed stone walls and locally mined slate. The Chapel is quiet and romantic and enjoys beautiful views of the Whicham Valley, Black Combe Fell, and the Coniston fells at the top of the valley. The Chapel is arranged with the living area on the upper floor to maximise the fell and valley views, and there is a woodburner for those cosy evenings. It also boasts a large bathroom with a freestanding bath and large wet room style shower. A paradise for lovers of wildlife and birds, the cottage is located amongst 5 acres of garden and woodland, and surrounded by fields in a separate area of a working farm in the Lake District National Park. There are wonderful walks from the cottage and just 1 mile away is the Irish sea and a beautiful dog friendly beach at Silecroft. The Whicham Valley is remote, unspoilt and an idyllic corner of the Lake District, ideal for walkers, mountain bikers, climbers, nature lovers and those enjoying the peace and beauty of the countryside. The Duddon Valley, Southern Lakes and fells are easily reached with Coniston Water, Ennerdale Water, Wastwater, and Lake Windermere all within half an hour’s drive. Visit Muncaster Castle, La’al Ratty Miniature Steam Railway or the South Lakes Wild Animal Park. Golf, fishing and horse riding are all available nearby including Cumbria Heavy Horses and beach rides at Silecroft. Massage and beauty treatments can be arranged nearby or at the cottage. The Chapel (26506) can be booked together with Fell View Cottage (W44181) to accommodate up to 7 guests. Beach 1¾ miles. Shop 4 miles, pub 1 mile and restaurant 1½ miles.

Wonderful cottage and owners along with their lovely dog Penny. We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay at the Chapel. It is well equipped, lovely bathroom and good TV. Internet is pretty slow but they do warn you about that, it wasn’t an issue for us. About a 50 min drive to lake Windermere. Lots of lovely walks on your door step. Our dogs and I were very happy here. Very nicely decorated with comfortable furniture. Thank you xxx

What a beautiful place. A brilliantly restored chapel in a spot just about as removed as anyone would need. We’ll definitely be coming back. The only very minor downside is that the kitchen feels a little ill equipped. It was wintery and wet and we had lots of lovely things to cook but there wasn’t much for us to work with... a big stewing pot would be great at least. More cutlery would mean you’re not washing up as regularly as we had to. And a radio / means of music would be good too! Small complaints tho... it was just about the best place we’ve stayed and I’m really keen to get back, with the dog this time!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thanks for scoring us 10 and we are so glad you want to come back. We have added a new casserole pan for winter comfort cooking and an extra set of cutlery. We've bought a DAB radio for the Chapel too, thanks for helping us to improve.

Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We thought the bedding and mattress were very tired and in need of replacement as the general standard of the property was high.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thanks for the feedback we have upgraded the mattress to a lovely Sensaform Memory Active 3000 with 1050 active individually pocketed springs. The duvet covers and bedding are all new although with a retro style/pattern per the photos. We have also added a new fridge freezer for the kitchen and are continually investing in The Chapel to keep standards high.
