This beautiful, single-storey, detached cottage is set in the heart of Knapton village in central Herefordshire. Formerly it was an old cart shed used for storing the carts over the winter period and is thought to be 250-300 years old. It is set near a Roman road with an old hill fort nearby. The Cart Shed has been thoughtfully furnished throughout with many hand-crafted items adorning the property. The cottage has been lovingly renovated over a period of time by the current owners who are as keen on the exterior appearance as the interior, with landscaped grounds which guests are free to wander and enjoy. The owners, who live next door, have a smallholding with a variety of animals including pigs, geese, chickens ans bees, as well as the owners’ two friendly dogs that may want to greet you. The local restaurant and pub is within walking distance.
The location is not only ideal for exploring Herefordshire but also Gloucestershire, Monmouthshire, the Brecon Beacons and Shropshire. There are numerous cider museums and working farms to visit as well as the Black and White Village Trail which takes in some of the most beautiful villages in the UK. Hereford Cathedral is home to the Hereford Mappa Mundi which is one of the world’s medieval treasures. There are National Trust properties including Berrington Hall, Croft Castle and The Weir Garden. The Forest of Dean is within easy reach with Go Ape, walks and cycle trails. Bike hire is available in nearby Kington, canoeing and water activities on the River Wye, and golf can also be found nearby. Shop 3 miles, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

We had such a fantastic stay at the cart shed. The location is perfect for exploring the nearby countryside and the cart shed was so lovely we didn’t want to go out! The kids loved feeding the animals at the end of our garden and expiring the grounds, and we loved curling up on the sofa in front of the roaring fire with a glass of wine at the end of the day. Perfect hosts too!

An excellent cottage and we had a very good stay. Well equipped kitchen, splendid enclosed garden and all very comfortable The only problem was that the TV was in a sub basement that one had to access by two steep steps without a hand rail. As I have a mobility issue, this was a problem for us, but would not trouble most people. From the visitors book it was obvious that most visitors are couples with small children, so this would present no difficulty. Derek, Barbara and Bonnie the dog.

A very nice spacious cottage, in a good location near Leominster. It is on a smallholding with pigs and chickens to feed. Also near several National Trust places. The reception rooms are very large; much bigger than they look on the photos. The owners are very friendly and helpful.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in a wonderful renovation. Well equipped and very comfortable. We received a warm welcome from Mike and Rose. The hamper of produce from the small holding and local produce was fantastic.

I'm so happy I found this hidden gem. A wonderful week spent in beautiful surroundings, it was spacious and comfortable. Our two dogs loved it too. The small holding has free range animals and the gardens are stunning. My only small criticism is the four poster bed could do with a mattress topper and the enclosed garden isn't fully safe for very small dogs or puppies (our 6 month old Imperial Shih Tzu got into the allotment under the gate, but she is very small). Mike allowed my husband to get some wood to butt up against the bottom of the fence at side and back. Having said that, we have already booked to go again in October.

Great place, fantastic barn conversion. Central to some superb hidden walks off the beaten track. Dogs are welcome but take care of the feathery locals! ;-)
