Welcome Cottages

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

Glyndebourne is close to this detached cottage for two, great base for Cuckoo Cycle Trail and Wealdway footpath.

Situated in a secluded part of the owner’s 16th century working farm, this detached, south facing, holiday property with oak floor in the kitchen, has been converted to a very good standard. It is in an ideal location overlooking a duck pond and with distant views to the South Downs. Accessed by a rough track, it is a great base for walking the Wealdway or cycling the Cuckoo Trail with 14 miles of pathways along the old Heathfield to Eastbourne railway. Other places to explore include Lewes and Eastbourne, both approximately 9 miles. Glyndebourne is 6 miles and Royal Tunbridge Wells is 13 miles. More locally are Charleston Farmhouse and Firle Place. The Jerwood Gallery at Hastings and De La Warr Pavilion at Bexhill are 20 miles away. Good main line rail links to London Victoria from Polegate (1 hour 20 minutes), and there is also an excellent pub and restaurant within a ten minute walk along country footpaths. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

All on ground floor: Living/dining room/kitchen with beams and oak floor. 1 double bedroom with beams and en-suite shower room with toilet.

Woodburner in living room (initial fuel included). Electric heaters, gas, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Freeview TV. DVD. Gas hob. Electric oven. Microwave. Washing machine. Dishwasher. Use of owner’s freezer. Garden with patio and furniture. Portable barbecue. Parking (2 cars). Cycle store. Welcome pack. No smoking. NB: Unfenced pond in farm grounds.

Very good quality. Bedroom excellent size. Living space a little small but the very large sliding patio door overcame that by giving the feel of bringing the outside to the inside. The wooden car shelter was very valuable in bad weather, as was the shale forecourt which avoided the risk of mud. The over all scene was very like a picture postcard with a duck pond and sheep in the field. No internet is provided but 3-Mobile produced an acceptable service from my phone. Wood burning stove was very effective, but not really necessary because of adequate electric heaters.

The cart lodge was a great place to stay for 2 when visiting the local area or friends as we were. Being January the weather was not kind but the cottage was always warm and cosy and so much so that we didn't need to use the woodturner. There is a local pub (The Gun) about half a mile away and that is pretty good too. The only slight downside to our trip was the lane to the farm. It is not made up, so quite muddy and badly potholed. This might be a problem for cars with very little ground clearance such as sports cars. The owners were very friendly and we appreciated the little welcome gifts. All in all we would gladly stay again.

This place is just fantastic. Cosy, comfortable, great shower (I think they've upgraded it). I've stayed here 3 times now and will likely return. It's peaceful and the owners and helpful but don't intrude. The area is beautiful with many great walks. Cannot recommend enough.

In General was a nice place to stay, Bad lane to get to the lodge many potholes. No WiFi. Only place in the house you can get a mobile signal was at the single glazed bedroom window same with Mobile WiFi. Outside in the yard there is Mobile Signal But inside the lodge was clean and comfortable and everything you need was there, TV remote i think need a new battery as did not always work when you press the buttons. The owners were very nice and friendly people. Would i stay there again YES i would if wanted to be in that area.
