The Calf Pens has definitely become one of our favourite cottages. Its peaceful setting, the roominess, cleanliness and the opportunity to get away from everything make it a wonderful retreat. There's everything you need in the cottage to cook with. There are mown paths in the farm grounds to walk on. The wildlife is always interesting and there's no light pollution for watching the stars. The cottage is reached via narrow Suffolk roads. If you're travelling from the south, as we were on this occasion, ignore your sat nav directions and travel to Ipswich before taking the A1071 to Hadleigh from where there's the shortest route on narrow roads. The owners, Allison and Hugh, are next door to the cottage and are very friendly and helpful without being intrusive. If you're thinking about visiting The Calf Pens, be selfish. Although there's accommodation for four, it's a great escape for two. Take your groceries with you and you won't want to leave the cottage for the week. Just chill and enjoy! We'll definitely be booking again.

Best holiday for a while, could have stayed longer. Very relaxing lovely lake to walk round. Owners friendly and helpful. Internet phone signal a bit iffy but did not bother us to much. Cottage warm and comfortable but watch out for the narrow roads ! Would stay again

The Calf Pens was excellent in that it was peaceful with space inside and out. The local pub(Queens Head) didn't look much but food and drink very good. Only open Weds to Sunday. We found plenty to do in the area, bird-watching, walking and heritage visits.
