This semi-setached, single storey cottage nestles in the delightful village of Newby, in the unspoilt Eden Valley, with many picture postcard villages to visit and rugged, rolling countryside to explore. This area is one of Cumbria’s best-kept secrets. It’s ideal for walking and cycling and offers fishing on the River Eden. Nearby attractions worth a visit include the 13th-century Brougham Castle, built as a barrier against Scots invaders. This is a fascinating castle with passages and spiral staircases to explore, and scenic views from the top of the keep. Also worth a visit is Acorn Bank House, Garden and Watermill with a partly restored watermill, and 17th century walled fruit orchard and herb garden. The house is also open for visitors, and a tea room provides welcome refreshments. The Rheged Centre offers a wide variety of attractions including exhibitions, cultural events Fairs, festivals and family fun. Wetheriggs Pottery is also nearby. The Byre is easily accessible from the M6 motorway and just a stone’s throw from the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the Scottish Borders.
