Also worth a visit is Acorn Bank House, Garden and Watermill with a partly restored watermill, and 17th century walled fruit orchard and herb garden. The house is also open for visitors, and a tea room provides welcome refreshments. The Rheged Centre offers a wide variety of attractions including exhibitions, cultural events Fairs, festivals and family fun. Wetheriggs Pottery is also nearby. The Byre is easily accessible from the M6 motorway and just a stone’s throw from the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the Scottish Borders. The market town of Appleby-in-Westmorland is nearby, famous for its horse fair, and the larger town of Penrith is approximately 20 minutes drive away. Shop 7 miles, pub and restaurant 3 miles.
